That biologist missed a major point......perhaps he didn't consider the ridiculous daily variance in flows before and after run-off the past few seasons. Trans-Alta has been over-draining ghost & bearspaw dam out of fear of another epic flood tragedy. Check out the Bow River Foundation, they are working with Trans-Alta to try and address these issues... https://bowrivertrout.org/

Once again the fisherman are getting blamed for the decline in fish populations. Most guides and fisherman are responsible enough to know when to shut the fishing down during hot weather and low flows. Fisherman aren't the problem

Out of 300 trophy trout I have landed in the Bow this year, only one has been a rainbow. Yikes, that is concerning

I find it unsettling to see this thread just slide down the page with only a couple of comments.

This my friends is the future. Crazy amount of prescription pee hitting the river. Invasive species, desease, and yes fishing pressure. All waterways heading down this course of destruction.

My $1.25.

Dodger.

I wonder about the high numbers of Pelicans,Cormorants,Mergansers,Ospreys,Prussian Carp and Crayfish.

Along with the Poachers and catch and release mortality.

There is no single cause. This kind of thinking is nearly always a fallacy.

There are numerous environmental stresses, some of which have been pointed out.

Consider also the 2013 flood changed the ecology and species demographics dramatically.

Fishermen play a part, but so do many other things.

Paper is based on data from 2003-2013, so the recent water flow yo-yo is not included.
Huge number of factors to consider, few of which can be controlled.
The government will chase down the one thing they can control...angler numbers.
I would suspect that we will see some regulation changes coming in the future.
The Cutt streams in the SW will on the radar soon too.

There are multiple reasons for a possible decline, there are a few that are easily addressed, perhaps allow people to start keeping pike. It’s kinda odd that rainbows are specified in the decline, why would they decline over the browns? To be honest out of all species declined on the bow I would have thought they would be referring to the Rockies.
