Default What Glass?

Just bought a T3 Hunter in 30/06. Need to ask some advice about what glass to put on it. I was conventionally thinking Bushnell Elite 3200 3x9-40, or Leupold VX-II 3x9-40. My question is, will i notice much difference between the two for $200? And if so, what?

Thanks.

Leupold is a superior product with an unbeatable warranty. And the warranty outlet is located in Okotoks.

Another Leupold vote. Ya hope you'll never have problems with a scope you buy, but it is handy having the service center in Okotoks. I had problems with one earlier this year and the service and turn around was great.

I don't own any 3200's but I'm going to go against the general consensus so far and say that my 4200 Elite 3-9X40 is a better, clearer scope than my VX11 3-9X40 that's been relegated to my .22WMR. The Leupold doesn't have "clicks" - it's a smooth windage adjustment - and I don't like it for that reason. I've had it redone and I'll agree that the service was very good, but it's also the only scope I've ever had that needed servicing. I was never a Bushnell fan at all, but got the 4200 in a pinch - it's surprised me. I hung it on my .243 Weatherby and it sees a lot of use and has never shifted it's zero.

The VXII Line has click windage / elevation adjustments. Are you sure you don't mean the VXI or Rifleman Line?

Leupold is superior to the 3200 for sure.
For a few extra bucks there is also the Zeiss Conquest, which IMO is even better than the VXII.
$499.00 most places.

Default Bushnell all the way...

For the money the 3200 is the way to go...and for a few bucks more ($299) you can get a 3x9x40 4200 elite...I own both Leupolds and Bushnell elites from VX-1s up to Mark4 and Bushnell 3200 and 4200...My 3200 have way better light transmition then the VX-2...Dont even look a Leupold less then a VX-3..Go to your local gun shop and take a real look at what you get for your money..And remember what i said...Good luck on getting your new scope..

id remind ya that whichever you get 3200/loopy or swaro,,,they all can come off and you can sell the gun and transfer it to a new gun...so spending good money on a better-than-you-can-afford scope is smart money.
check out the zeiss conquest...ive never used one, but they are sure highly regarded
good luck

The Leupold seems to have better edge to edge clarity but some of the features of the Elite 3200, like the Rainguard and rubber ring on the ocular end are nice to have, I guess. I can't really remember hunting in the rain in November though.

I'm partial to the Leupold because it is simple, classic and the glass seems to be clearer.

I have a 3x9 50mm Leupold Rifleman (vx-I basically) on my 30-06. It has good eye relief and its always clear. Its not the best scope in the world but I certainly dont have any complaints with it.

Cant argue for the price.

Buy the best optics you are able to afford. Earlier this summer I participated in a shooting clinic and it was interesting to see the value of good optics. Part of the course was a scope tracking drill prior to us shooting from longer ranges. There was a scope or two that would have been on the lower end of the quality scale and they were not able to track and as a result were not of much use in the course.

Ditto. My VX-II clicks.

I think the Leupold is better, but the issue of whether it's $200 better is completely personal, depending on what $200 means to you. If you are on a tight budget, I'd say it's probably not. Nothing wrong with the 3200.

I believe people when they say some of the top end Euro glass is better than my Leupold... Its just that for ME (the amount I hunt, ranges, conditions, other things I spend my money on), it's not worth the price difference.

I shoot a Khales 3-9x42 with TDS, on my 7mm. Awesome scope, have been very happy with it. There are others as well, check out the Nikon monarch, supposed to be a good affordable rig too. There are afew names id check out before i made the decision. But, like has been said, you about cant beat Leupold. They are built to stand toe to toe with anything else.

In almost 30 years of hunting all I've ever used is bushnell and I've never had a problem with them. Now all I use is the 4200 elite. I've put them side by side with my brothers leupold VXIII and niether of us could tell the differance in quality. You can usually pick up a 4200 on cgn for around 350-375 dollars.

I love the VXII's, I've never had a problem with one. Put one on my 7mmRM 15 or 16 years ago and have only had to adjust it a few times with a click or two.

Go with the 3200 if you want a clear, bright view. I have 3 Leupold VXIII's, 1 x 4.5-14x40 Varmint, 1 x 4.5-14x40 B&C, 1 x 2.5-8 x 36 B&C, and 2 x 5-15x40 Bushnell 3200's and these put the VX111's to shame in both low light, and daytime conditions. You would think that spending the $750 + on the Leup's would get you good glass, but apparently it is only paying for the warranty work.

I just ordered a elite 4200 3-9X40 from SIR/Cabelas for $319. Although I have looked through both a 4200 and a VX II, I have not made a side by side comparison. That is something I will do once I have my 4200.

For What it's worth, they had the VXII 3-9X40 on for $359.

Tredeb,

I have been thinking about the same two scopes along with a few others. Be interested to know what you think about the 4200 when you get it.

Here ya go.......... Read the reviews; pretty simple decision after that. (And they seem to be impartial reviews from a pretty reputable dealer!)

i'd take my 250 bucks and head to canadian tire macleod trail south store and pick up a burris ff2 3-9x40 with the ballistic plex reticle....perfect match for the gun and cartridge, you'll have aim points that are real close out to 500 yrds....when i was shopping this scope was over 100 bucks more at wholesale...not sure what the diff. is now but it was a steal a few years ago, i bought a few of them, happy with them too, i have a tikka .270 with that scope on it and with 2.9" high at 100 zero the 300, 400, 500 yrd hash marks are within an inch, its a bang for the buck champ imo....i like the glass in it much better than my elite 3200 on wifes .243

I've had a couple bad Bushnell experiences on my 30-06 so I have just purchased a Leupold VXII 3x9x40. My Bushnell issues seem to be with not handling the recoil well and losing the zero. Granted the issues were with a Bushnell Legend but I've decided to jump ship. The Leupold reputation and customer service is apparently second to none.

Just my $.02

Hi. New here but I've been reading posts for a while. I just bought a new VXII 3-9X from these guys and I think its the best scope for the money that I own. however, I'm a big Leupold fan and own about 20 or their products, more than all others combines. (Good looking scopes too!)

I chose the Bushnell Elite 4200 2.5-10x40 over the Leupold VXII 3-9x40. The thing I hated about the Leupold was how stiff the zoom ring was. I'd hate to try to turn it in -20 degree weather with gloves on.
