Cool Mission Accomplished!!

With each of the past six years that I've been hunting with the bow, a pre season goal has always been set. Last year's objective was to take my first ever archery whitetail, and on the last day everything came together.

This year, as some of you will know, my focus shifted somewhat. I wanted to take a deer with my soon to be 9 year old 'Shrub' by my side. This is easier said than done since we were limited to being on the ground.

This evening it all came together when it looked like it wouldn't. The first one came through beside us at 35 yards, and I decided not to take the shot due to the setup. Suddenly, a second one appeared at 28 yards. I quietly instructed my little dude to slowly drop the flap and I decided that now was the time!

The impact was a little far back, and there was virtually no blood trail to speak of. The pair of us worked the trail slowly and methodicly until the light began to wane. I decided to use the excited little guy to work the bush on either side of us and ahead. The sharp young eyes were amazing at picking up the minute traces of blood (BearB8ter I was thinking of you at this point).

Needless to say, the anxiety level was beginning to rise as the sun set. Eventually, something caught my eye, and I innocently sent my now expert tracker up ahead. When he stumbled upon the little buck he was 'over the moon' excited. Time for some hugs 'n high fives!

My last two bucks have been 'achievment' kills that have a combined gross score of 8" and net of 0". Probably two of my most favourite bucks ever!

Thanks for reading and best wishes to all this season.

Congrats on setting the goal and achieving it, Tree!!! That'll get the fire burning in the boy (as if it wasn't already, lol). Should get some tender morsels out of that little guy, too. Bang-up job!

Thanks guys. Forgot to mention......

Gotta of course give a huge 'thank you' to the landowners who so generously allow us to enjoy their property. And as always, props to my hunting partner and great friend, Mike for his own generousity and efforts to mentor me into this amazing sport!

Oh yeah, the marks on his cheeks are leftover tattoos from last night's trick or treating and NOT blood before anyone jumps to some weird conclusion. We're not THAT hardcore!

Lot's more to the story I'll add along the way. Been three days in a row and I'm tired now...........

Nice work buddy!!! Your young lad will have stories to tell all the other kids for the next few weeks at school.

I guarantee he will remember this night all of his life and will tell his kids, with absolute clarity, every detail regarding the hunt.

Congrats.

Great story. My daughter is bugging me to take her with me already. I can't wait for that day. Your story adds to my excitement. What an introduction to hunting for the shrub.

Thanks for sharing.

That is what it's all about Tree (and I mean that in the most sincere, non-cliche way). Thanks for sharing man. Your boy will never forget that evening.

Huge congrats bud.
