I was wondering if the close to full moon would fish like last winter, so we headed down the river, set up on shore and commenced to fishin. Wife started off with a couple good sized suckers to get us warmed up, then the fish went nuts. Goldeyes, mooneye, including a double header for me, walleye, 2 kinds of suckers, even a clam, seriously, it closed up on her bait which was hilarious, even bigger than the crayfish she hooked last winter.
And the sturgeon.
got as many today as I did my whole first season last year, total of 7 for me, 5 under 3 feet, one at 42 inches, and a beast at 47 inches. got that one on video too. And 3 sturge for the lady. Not having learned in all my years, I opened my mouth and teased my lady about the sturgeon count. she had one on earlier that snapped her 30 pound braid like thread, so I shoulda know better. She commenced to hook a beast, her poor reel was making some scary noises, and Im sure I saw some smoke coming off it. With my expert
coaching she finally managed to land her personal best, 57 inch sturgeon, clobbered my best by 5 inches and almost 20 pounds Im thinking. I estimated the weight in the high 40s if not a little more, it was a fat fish for sure. Got the whole fight on video, and this time she didnt swear at the end like the one who broke her line
