Default Red Foxes

What are you doing with your foxes , just have two but not sure to put to auction along with my coyotes . Are you fellas or gals putting to auction or holding onto them & tanning or getting tanned . Considering what the talk is about coyotes the foxes may not even sell or if they do will be lower than usual .

I sent a few of my reds to auction with the coyotes. Hopefully the reds will pay for my shipping and drumming costs.

Not sure what tanning costs any more, but I used to tan them and sell privately. A bit more work, but way better returns.

I also tanned a couple myself with that orange bottle tanning formula. Foxes are pretty thin, so getting a nice soft tan with minimal effort was pretty easy.

To better times!!!

Marty, is your wolf trapper lower success this year a result of him not being as active or is it a case of lower wolf numbers in his trapping area?

Seems like everyone who wanted to have a fox tanned has one now. I have been giving mine away and they are great for kids to learn to skin as well.

Who knows, maybe a competitor doing him in? Maybe neighbors figured out how to poison, maybe he killed themall last year? More likely other factors, but hes just not catching them. Hes nowhere close to the caribou wolf war effort. Hopefully with the warm up he doesnt get any til it gets cold, doesnt skin, refuses to pull the guts out = breakage.

I guess with skinning bill i might as well just buy some stretched fur wolves, no feet… less work but cheaper. Anybody interested? Text me pics before skinning could even buy wolves skinned froze just like my good buddy buys coyotes. I got me a young hutterite skinner that learned-ed his way around fleshing stuff real good, better job than ever the most proud… well almost all of them!

Marty, reason I asked is seeing much lower wolf sign/numbers on trapline west of Whitecourt. Also less moose numbers, probably as result of 2nd bunch of 24/7 hunters. When moose/deer gone wolves have no food and usually die off.
Many years ago trappers in BC had almost no moose, then numbers went way up and wolf population also followed.
