Default APA Mamba M36

Good Morning Folks!

I picked up a bow again for the first time since I was 13 (about 25 years ago now) in 2020. It is a 2008 Bowtech Guardian, my old man's retired bow. Didn't put much hunting effort in in 2020 and in 2021 I found a pretty handsome bull moose.

I've since had an opportunity to acquire a very well priced 2016 APA Mamba M36. I'm currently pulling 70 lbs no problem and the APA is 60 lbs but has the same IBO as the Bowtech. I can upgrade the limbs for about $250 and shoot 70 lb on the APA as well.

Anyone have experience and can weight in if it's worth switching over? I keep debating if I should buy a brand new bow but the reality is I think I can be deadly with either of these and save $1500 to $2000.

Any thoughts?

If you can drop weight and have the same performance that’s a win, when it’s cold out and you’ve been sitting for a long time that 70 lbs. might bevel like a brick wall.

My hunting partner shoots an APA M7 and they can have a fairly aggressive draw cycle. Also, generally they draw long, so you will need to make sure the draw length is correct for you. If not, you will need to order the draw specific mods from a dealer or directly from APA.

Also a 60 lbs APA will be plenty to hunt anything in NA and will be a lot more pleasant to shoot than a 70 lb'er

Overall a solid bow with some neat features.

I agree with what has been stated above, if you typically shoot 28” for example, you will want your APA set to 27-27.5” as they always draw long.

Thanks folks, I've noticed shooting the APA a bit in the garage that even though the mod is for a 29.5 it sits more like a 30-30.5... maybe that is worth looking at too.

I can pull 70 lbs no issue and was actually thinking a limb upgrade for more speed might be worthwhile.
