The middle booster failed to land where it was supposed to (aka ka-boom, they lost it). Other than that is a success, according to SpaceX. Great for the peoplekind.

The technological leaps they have mad in 5 years is astounding. Reduced cost to orbit by a factor of 10.

That`s because it wasn`t a Government project. No $5000 toilet seats or $1000 paperclips. The booster landing was amazing, like a Starwars scene.

None of the 1st stage rockets were intended to be reused. The "core" has an engine relight malfunction and hit the water at 300mph and the 2 that landed, he just wanted to salvage the titanium fins. They we're landing them just to see if they could.

They’ve landed single Falcons before so they had good reason to believe that would work, and they are designed to be re-useable, thats the entire point and is SpaceX’s primary business model for creating a more affordable launch platform. Musk was in an interview afterwards musing about the possibility of multiple flights a day with the same rockets. I know that would be far off because of course they’ll be inspecting the heck out of the units after each flight, but it’s obviously part of their vision.

The 2 that landed had previously landed twice before, each. SpaceX has landed 23 successful times. Part of the business model is reusing boosters.

Wow
Boy that is some technology. I hope this becomes a viable business, it will keep the expertise growing.
Very impressive.

On top of this all, Tesla can now claim to have the fastest car ever

SpaceX Falcon Heavy launch
I showed it to the kids last night - they love building virtual planes and rockets on SimplePlanes and SimpleRockets, so it was right up their alley.
I told them that yesterday’’s events were a huge step in defining what space travel will look like in their generation.
It’s quite amazing really, when I think about this - I remember watching the Apollo launches on TV, then the Shuttle launches - and now this. Very cool indeed!

Space X program is super cool but would have loved to see a little more purpose in that launch rather then a publicity stunt. Still amazing to watch!

Purpose of this launch was the launch itself. Testing a new rocket and technology. One would not put few million worth satellite in it, so the car is simulating a payload.
