Default 6.5 Creedmore Primer size

I noticed that Lapua brass is made to receive small rifle primers, supposedly to stand higher pressures. I myself think that with a case capacity of 46 grains, large rifle primers like those on Hornady and others is the way to go. Like to hear your opinions.

Yours in good hunt'n,

CH

Use small rifle magnums like the Palma guys do.

I am curious about them also,I have bin using hornady cases in mine and use fed 210 match primers in them.I have 100 of them with around 7 firings on them with no problems but have bin thinking of trying the Lapua when these are done.
I might be wrong but I think I read somewhere that some rifles won't work with them ,something to do with a firing pin change,I would like to know before I buy some.

I run 6.5 X 47’s with a small primer and they work fine. I think the Creed case will take about 2 - 4 gr more than the ‘47 .... so doubt that the minuscule extra length of the powder column or small difference in powder volume make any difference in the efficiency of ignition. If I was buying Creed brass, I would try the Lapua with the small primer.
I have several actions, several barrels for each ... some cartridges have small primers, some large ... no problems with firing pins on mine.

I shoot a 6.5x47 and also use Lapua small rifle primer brass. No issues for either of my x47’s. If I was a Creed shooter I’d definitely try the Lapua brass. I shoot CCI 450’s and never had a problem from highs of 80C to lows of -30C. Lapua quality is hard to beat.

I run BR4 in my CM. I did some pressure testing up to 43.5grs of H4350 and had no pressure signs. I settled on 42.2 grs. Best group/SD. I don’t feel to need to push the brass to its limits fir speed. If I was speed chasing I’d get a 26 Nosler or something similar. Lapua Brass is excellent so you’ll be able shoot longer. The 6.5guys did s great review on the brass.

From what I have read and watched, large primer brass blows out the primer pockets fairly quickly (8 loads? it was loosening and by 12-15 it could not hold a primer) even on low power loads. The small primer brass lasts just about forever. So if you want to splurge on better brass it might make a difference to you.

If you're into roofing every load you do, you'll benifit somewhat from the smaller primer pocket.
If you take a slightly more responsible approach to loading things, and learn how to not squash every case to minimum dimension when sizing, you'll likely see very little benifit from the smaller pockets.

I dunno how I'm getting over 10 loads on some of my .308 brass in my match rifle.... oh ya I do, I'm at least a full grain off of what most guys run with 155's, and I collet size too.

Thanks everyone.

This video convinced me to go with the small magnum primers
