Default Lead Shot

I looking for a source of lead shot - approximately 50 lbs. Will be used as weights for a Caldwell Lead Sled!

Any input would be appreciated.

Be aware, that if you are using a lot of weight on a lead sled, with a heavy recoiling rifle, it puts a great deal of strain on the stock, which can result in damage to the stock.

Shot is a bit pricey to just use as ballast, perhaps try something that is free or less expensive but has other uses. A fabric bag of gravel or perhaps a large box of something heavy such as deck screws. The boxes of collated nails for my framing nailer tend to be heavy for size. At Bolt Supply House 3/8” nuts (or whatever your preference) are pretty affordable.

I read about that matter online and am aware of that potential issue.

What amount of weigh would you feel would be safe to use without risking damage to a stock? The only heavy recoil (?) rifle that I would place in the Sled is a 7 mm R.M..

I would also be testing .270, .30-06, .243, and 22.-250 handloads with the Sled all of which have minimal, if any recoil and for which I likely would not use any weights.

Thank you for the feedback - I’m likely going to go with tire weights due to it being a relatively inexpensive solution.

The round weights that are using for weight lifting can be used on the lead sleds as well.
