Default AR10 - What Optic?

Hello everyone, I have ordered a BCL-102 and I am putting my shopping list for accessories together. I was thinking about a RD with a magnifier, but it isn't really practical for a rifle that will be used for hunting sometimes.
I'm thinking of a 1x4, haven't decided in brand yet, what would you suggest?

What is your budget? I've also been looking for a similar optic recently for an AR15 in the $500 - $700 ball park. I was looking at the Vortex Strike Eagle 1-6 and Primary Arms 1-6, but Vortex (at least their lower end models) doesn't really get the best reviews, and I think the source of the Primary Arms scope I was looking at is sold out of the model with the reticle that I wanted. If your budget is more than mine, there are lots of options in the $1000+ range.

A few weeks ago I noticed Nikon has a 1-4 model out, Black Force, but I haven't had the chance to research it very much. Leupold also offers a couple of different "patrol rifle" type scopes, but I'm not sure if they offer a true 1X magnification.

Let us know what you decide to go with, I'd like to hear your review.

I agree with John. 1-4, 1-6 and now 1-8 magnification scopes seem to be directed mostly at 3 gun competition shooters shooting .223/5.56 calibres. If I was going to shoot/hunt with a .308 in a NR rifle, a higher magnification would be my preference too.

I'm looking at putting a VX3 on my BCL-102. Have to look at that Nikon that John_R1 put up. Geared specifically to the .308.

If hunting is even part of this rifles' role, I suggest a higher magnification than 1-4x.

Something in the 3x to 15x, and with exposed turrets & side-focus, is what I'd be looking for...

Nikon P-308 4-16x42SF Matte BDC 800

15 power is way more than what is needed for typical hunting. 9 is great at 400 meters. Im sure 6 would be fine too. Ask all these guys with fixed power 6x scopes if they are unable to effectively hunt with them.

I put a Vortex Viper HST 4-16 on my BCL. Will be used for hunting and target.

Because I'm rich, burning my money in the fire isn't as much fun and I have a $6000 long range rifle that I use "sometimes" for hunting that has a 4-24 on it.

No matter how hard you try an AR will never be as accurate as my bolt and the intended purpose of this rifle will be shoot close to mid range, say 300m.

I really wanted the Razor AMG UH-1 but when you jack up the brightness the reticle becomes 3.

I changed it out for an A2 flash hider, but the finish is different so I’ll have to get it coated. The brake that comes with it is ugly IMO.

Agreed, I'm thinking of a Fortis Red for mine.

Have you looked into the nightforce nx8? Looks good.

I'd look at the 1-8x Sightron (forget exactly which series it is) as that is pretty much a do-all optic. I have a 1-4x Leupold Mark AR on my XCR but do also use a 6-24 Bushnell Elite Tactical for range work.

If you like an aggresive looking flash hider, Seekins makes a 3 prong one that is effective and looks great. I'm using the 5.56 model on my XCR.

Trijicon 1-4, with green chevron post. Beautiful glass, and quick target aquisiition. The last thing I’d want for hunting on a semi 308 would be big magnification and target turrets. But hey I prefer brunettes to blondes.
