The Lyman manual is a start, each company puts something slightly different in the reloading instruction section, that is one major reason to get more than one manual, for the tricks and tips. Once you read thru a few manual's data sections for your cartridge, you will notice the bulk of them list much the same powders for that cartridge and bullet weights, all within a certain group of powders close to each other, in a burn rate chart. Something of an example is, you'll see a cartridge listed with ww760, IMR4350 and Reloader 19, 760 is the fastest burning, 4350 is in the middle and RL19 is the slowest in that group in the burn rates, usually. RL19 would be the fastest of the H4831 group, with IMR7828 as the slowest. In that group on the burn rate charts will be some other brands, like Vihtavouri, Norma, and some other Euro powders. As bullet weights go up or down in a given cartridge, the parameters of the group of powders shown will change, may go with a faster burn rate, may go slower, pay attention to that. If you are aware of that before buying powder, you can make better choices, and not wind up with one that only works on one or two bullet weights, and can work decently in more than one cartridge.
