It has been pretty clear for quite some time that the only group of people it is impossible to freely discriminate against is the whites. The straight white male to be precise.
Nothing surprises me anymore.

Heard a rumour last week the mayor of Edmonton wanted to call the Chief's in the Fire and Police dept by another name. Hope it aint so but that this is getting crazy! I don't even think it is the natives that are pushing for it either!

If people are offended by a name or number then we should consider changing it. It is very expensive to change a corporate or team name.
It seems to me it would be logical that the people offended by the name should cover the cost of changing it. I am not offended by the name "Eskimos" and if the owners are not then it should not cost the owners or fan.
This cost can be covered by those offended.

I grew up in Lethbridge with a rather large indigenous population. I remember all the native kids at school proudly wore Cleveland Indians and Chicago Blackhawks hats. Pretty odd it's now looked upon so poorly.

Yes until a couple or three of us older generations eventually die out. The change to society is accomplished by focusing on young impressionable minds and ignoring older soon to be of no consequence generations who eventually die off. Social media and the internet has captured the minds of the younger generations and is moulding them to what the powers that be want at an accelerating rate never seen before. Social changes that took 50 -100 years and several generations now happen in 10. This can be good if the powers that be are benevolent but I have my doubt about the motives the direction society is being herded.
