Default Model 70 Floorplate Wont open

Hey guys I recently got my hands on a sweet little model 70 xpr featherweight in a 257 Roberts. Everything worked great on it until i took it all apart to clean. Now the floorplate not wont open its way to tight. Any tips on what to do not sure if i have something in wrong or to tight. If I open it I have to loosen the front action screw to get it to unlatch. Thanks

Is this a three piece three screw bottom metal unit?

loosen all the guard screws and separate the trigger guard and floor plate as far apart as the stock will let them and retighten and see if it helps. Do NOT overtighten the center screw as the trigger guard can be broken .

I've tried doing that a couple times now. Take to the tips on the center screw is there a number a guy should torque these screws to?

Middle screw just tight enough to not fall out. You also could use a shim under the front guard screw.

Yes, the middle screw is not for securing or tightening the action. It should be viewed as a floor plate latch adjustment screw used to position the latch so it operates properly without binding the magazine. A little blue Loctite on it once it has been set so the floorplate opens and latches properly will keep it secure in its proper position without loosening but still allow for it to be removed reasonably easy, do not use red Loctite.

The two piece bottom metal floorplate trigger guard wasn't one of Winchesters better ideas.
