I watched a large carp spit out a worm yesterday. Maybe I had sunscreen or something on my hands when I rigged it up.

The Crawling Valley walleyes seem to greatly prefer minnows over worms. But I would have to agree, a big ol' earthworm is never a bad choice.

If you want to take your worm fishing to the next level, try inflating them...especially if the bite is soft.
Great for trout and walleye!

Just a hook and a worm. Thats old school fishing. Never fails.
I think they have a hypodermic needle sort of device for inflating worms. Iv'e never done it myself.

Up here earth worms are useless as bait. Our fish don't know what they are.

Use diabetic syringes to inflate the worms. Bag of 10 is like $3 at the pharmacy.

Worm "blower" looks like a container white kids glue would come in but under the cap is a needle. I would agree with the previous post that an actual medical needle would probably work much better.
But personally I would think leeches would be better in every way ... they won't drown and will look like food to almost any fish.

Leeches do work well. You can't harvest leeches of your lawn though, and I don't know how long you can store them. Dewworms can last a year or more.

I've always wondered why nearly every fish species around will fall all over itself to eat something it probably has never even seen before. Sure some fish might see the odd worm floating around, but I doubt your average Slave Lake walleye, spending most of its life out on the drop has any clue what a worm is... but they bite it anyways, and some times a worm will out fish a minnow or leach to a ridiculous degree.
Oddly enough, my rule of thumb is to generally start with worms in a lake, and to start with minnows in a river. Its just a rule of thumb and I break it regularly, but its my rule of thumb because day in and day out it seems to work more often than not. The odd part is that I imagine a river fish would see far more worms in its life than a lake fish.
