Default North Ram River

So.... I was talking to my neighbor about the North Ram. He's an avid quad-er. He claims there's a waterfall on the North Ram upstream of Trunk Rd. I thought he was mixing up the North and South forks of the Ram. Can anyone clarify this for me?? I hiked approximately 5hrs and the river started looking VERY tiny. Can't imagine a waterfall worth mentioning once the river is that tiny. Thx in advance. -J.

he might of been thinking about the Hummingbird Falls. the Hummingbird joins the South Ram upstream of the Trunk Road and the falls are a short distance from that.

not aware of any falls on the North Ram at all.

Yeah - I couldn't find anyone in person who could verify it either. -J.

There is a waterfall on the north ram not a huge one but big enough to stop fish
It is hard to explain were it is
But from staging area it is 6 clicks downstream

What staging area are you referring to? The open field where the rancher rounds up his cattle?
There's not a waterfall anywhere in that section that would stop a fish. I fish from there down to the forks on more than a few occasions. If you ask my wife she would say that would be my second home out there......

I haven't seen the falls myself. Was told by other person and he showed me pictures. He said they were 6 feet tall

Sounds like humingbird falls just up from the staging area at the confluence of hummingbird, onion, and ram river.

McLennan flyfishing .com
There is article in there on the north ram
Why in 1955 it was stocked with west slope
Cuttys. Reason was there was no fish above the falls

I have travelled up the north ram many times over the years on horses, from the trunk road to the headwaters lake and fished all over it. nothing over maybe a 2 foot ledge as for waterfalls. Only one designated quad trail in the area that crosses the north ram a few times close to the trunk road and it was closed this summer when I was out there.

Yeah - looks like consensus is no falls. Good to know - I'll stop looking lol. The other thing that got me wondering is that Jim McLellan speaks of some cutts released into N Ram between the falls in his book "Trout Streams of Alberta". Not sure if there's some falls downstream of Trunk or if his book has typo .
PS - thx for telling me about headwayters/ lake. Might try hiking to it some year. But I'm guessing at a 2 day-er. I'll need lots of ambition lol

You can hike into the headwaters of the North ram from Hiway 11 as well. park at the Sifflur falls staging area and booker'! Hit the lake then continue on to the south ram from there!! Better plan on a few day trip tho!

I can't find my old alberta fishing guide
From the 1980s. There is a article in there
On the north ram on them hauling the cuttys in
To the north ram. If I remember right it was by
Horse pack in 1955. It was stocked a second time
Also. In 1982 they made it catch and release
I started fishing it in 1984. The reason in the
Article was there was no fish above the falls on the
North ram I have fished most of the ram above were the falls
R suppose to be. I haven't fished the last 3k
I'm going by what I've read and been told haven't
Seen with my own eyes though

the falls they are refering to in that article is on the main stem of the Ram river downstream of where the south and north rams join (i think it is even farther downstream a bit from where Fall creek enters also). it was a natural barrier for fish coming up from the North Sask drainage.
