muzzle brakes
Is there somebody in Edmonton or Red Deer that installs muzzle brakes. What are them normally worth. Need something for recoil reduction on old shoulders. Thanks.

Price will depend on the design. Radial or side port will make a difference as well. I would also recommend a pair of noise canceling ear plugs. Most of my guns have brakes and a pair of good ear plugs makes sure you won't damage your hearing. Depending what you hunt you could also look into getting a smaller caliber. If you just hunt deer a 6 or 6.5 mm would do just fine.

This would be my first choice to reduce recoil. Then a good recoil pad. Next would be a heavier gun. As a former user of a muzzle brake, I would NEVER use another one.

Brakes are a necessity on any heavy hitters if you want to be able to spot your own shots

Off the top of my head;
EM Precision in Spruce Grove.
Blue Chip Precision out in the Calmar/Wizard Lake area.
Google will be your friend. Any reputable smith should be able to do it for you, properly. Cost will vary with brake design.

Lol. I don't think he's asking about smaller guns. I'm sure he likes what he has.

Just can’t handle the recoil, lol.
I have a buddy in PA who damaged his eardrum from a muzzle break on a 338-378wby, all because he forgot he had his break on.
To me there’s no recoil worth losing hearing over, and there’s no animal large enough on the North American continent that requires a rifle so big it needs a muzzle break to shoot.
That said, I do agree with you, the op isn’t interested in hearing about what type of rifle he should be shooting..... and I do own a rifle with a break, but only because it came with the rifle.

Quick and fast, seen a fellow at the RMH Range with 1 on each of his rifles. 7 Remmy Mag & 30/06.
They stay well planted, the style of these Barkes are not as loud as the more recoil reduced units on the market,,, they say 38% less recoil,,, he classes them as 25 ish %.

My nephew just had a brake put on his 338 wm. Feels like shooting a 243 win now.

If you're gonna hunt with a muzzle brake. I recommend hunting with an electronic Earplug with hearing enhancement. Like Etymotic GPS 15.
The electronic earplug does the job, cause I hunted with a Etymotic GPS15 on my ear yesterday and my ear weren't ringing.

I bumped the piece on Kahntrols that I wrote so you can find it. As far as screw on brakes, any good gunsmith can do them KS in Edmonton, Magnum in Calgary are both good choices. You can have a screw on installed and use it full time or just for target work. Whatever you do, ALWAYS wear plugs adn muffs when shooting with a Brake. They are really loud and WILL damage your hearing in as little as one shot.

I'd second Blue Chip, I think he may actually do EM's brakes if what I have heard is correct. He does great work, best way to get a hold of him is on his FB page.

I love muzzle brakes! I have had all my custom guns fit with brakes now, right from the .223 to 375 H&H. All are removable and come with a non vented cap for hunting so it is the best of both worlds for me.

X2 mcrs brakes are the best in the business, they tame recoil and are designed so that they don’t kick up dust and debris into the shooters line of sight

I had a Custom rifle with Muzzle brake in 7 STW it was very quiet with brake on..... holes were drilled forward not to the side or back like most of them...
I've got one now on Sako Finnlight in 300 Win Mag I will never use it again as this one is very loud even with ear plugs and electronic muffs.
I am shooting this gun with rubber knob at the muzzle and no brake no ear muffs or ear plugs for hunting.
