Hmmm. Ken (THE SHOOTIST) has a Norinco short rifle for sale on his site c/w a scope mount. Any idea what these are worth?

$450 without the scope mount if it is unfired. Scope mounts for m14's can vary from $50 to over $250 so it would depend on the mount.

I saw that as well, not a fan of the M14/M305 but it isn't a bad price if new. Depending on the scope mount it could be good or not worth it, some look good but are garbage according to my friends who love the M305 but I have no data on which model is good.
About $450 for gun and $50 for mount so probably cheaper mount if the firearm is new.
If it is good price.

That scope mount is the springfield armoury M1A mount, its not great - loosens up all the time . If that gun is brand new and unfired its a fair price, not a steal but its not bad. IMO The Arms 18 is the 2nd best mount for the M1A/M14. I believe The best mount is the CASM mount from www.m14.ca. I've pushed 500 + rounds through my M305 (22'' barrel) and its still tight. I absolutely love the M305. Mine will do 1-1.5 MOA with the cheap stuff like fed blue box and win pp in 150 gr. I think the Norinco M305 is the 2nd best gun deal in Canada, 1st would be the SKS.

The only problem with the "best mount" for the Norinco M14 is that the receivers can be so far out of spec from one rifle to another that a mount that works and holds zero on one rifle won't work at all on another.

I've owned a few M14s, and I can say that the best style of mount is the kind that utilize the stripper clip guide and the side mounting boss. However, some rifles won't fit these mounts, no matter how much shimming or playing is done with them. As for the CASM mount from M-14.ca, I am not a fan. There are some rifles that they won't fit either. I had one. I've had best results with the ARMS 18 and Sadlak mounts.

The best Norinco M14s are the older ones with no markings on the gun, IMO. From my experience, they seems closest to spec and the metallurgy is better.
