Default My first go at 70 yards

Got it dialed in to 60 yards pretty good now and have a few more pins left so I figured I would see what I could do at 70. Estimated pin gap for 70 and this was the first group! I thought that was pretty good. I tweeked the site a bit and got it dialed in a a bit better and I have to say that is fun shooting long distance like that with a bow. These are broadheads as well so it really boosts the confidence

Nice shooting!
Foam steaks tonight haha.
I find shooting longer distances very fun and makes shots at 40 like second nature.

If you can't stalk closer than 70 you ain't much of a bow hunter. Taking shots like that at game will likley end in a wounded animal.

Good morning ya Negitive Nancy.
He's practicing at 70, not hunting.

Nice shooting there Nube

Kinda why I am practicing at these ranges. It makes 60 and under a breeze it seems. Once I get the pin dialed in perfect I'm going to set my 80 yard pin up as well. It's a blast shooting long range like this. I never thought it would be possible to launch an arrow so accurately at these distances and especially with Broadheads as well

It's a lot of fun stretching out the range. I don't usually shoot during the winter but I do 90% of my shooting at 40+ yards once the snow melts. After a few warm up rounds I can get my groups down to 3 or 4 inches at 100yds, of course not all groups will be that tight but I can keep them in the kill zone at 100yds.

Wind and even rain can play a big factor when you start to stretch things out, and practicing at long range during windy or rainy conditions will give you real life expectations for when it counts. As far as I'm concerned, any archer who doesn't practice at long range, is missing out. Even if you feel 50, or 60yds is out of your comfort range to hunt at, shooting groups at that range is fulfilling in a way. I like shooting groups but I hate wrecking arrows. So at long range I get the best of both worlds, I can shoot groups and don't usually wreck any arrows.

Nube, I'd say don't worry about guys telling you how far you should shoot. You're on the right track and when the time comes you'll know how far is too far given your current conditions.

I love Practicing at longer distances I run a 4 pin slider 20,30,40,50. Once I am 100% confident my pins are dialed I do 90% of my practice at 80m makes 40 feel easy. Nice 70m group

Not too many broad heads will group like that consistently at 70 yds .
Was wondering which one did you use?
Cheers!

Kurt if you're doing 4 inch groups at 100 yards my hat is off to ya. That is awesome!! To some my group won't be that great but it was exciting for me and I thought I would share is all.

That's all you need is the excitement, if you're having fun shoot groups and challenging yourself at long distances, your accuracy and confidence will go up with every round.

I recorded this 100yd group from the animals point of view last year or the year before.

I forgot to add that most of the video is in slow motion so you can see some of the arrow flight.

This was with my hunting bow at TAC Big Sky, 94 yards steep uphill with a swirling mostly left-right wind.

Practicing these type of shots either gives you confidence in your setup or shows you what you need to work on.

My arrows are the red/white fletched with black pin nocks, exactly the same setup I use for hunting....minus the broadheads.

X2 awesome shooting Kurt and Nube. I have been practicing out to 90 yards so far, it helps me feel more confident at the closer ranges. It's also lots of fun shooting the longer ranges

It gets addictive, you keep wanting to stretch it farther and farther. I use a fixed 7 pin sight for hunting, but I've got a dial for when I go past 80yds.

Here's a 5 shot group from 100yds

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=zrRbGsu3HYQ

And 5 shots at 80yds

LC you started this along time ago, it was a good thing.
I'm shooting a 2 to 2.5" spread at 60 yards and I'm happy with that.
You all are doing a way lot better!

Looking back at where we all come from target and hunting archers as I
see it, in retrospect..

We are all gaining the best of both worlds all the way around.

:-)

Let the rest of the others tear themselves apart. Are feet are well firmly
planted on the ground.
:-)

Few people I have known except LC and a few others that have knone
beyond what's expected to make this kind of thing happen.

Thank you.

P.S. I used the spelling on known as knone because the spell check is a
little oft. knone is kind of like a canoke spelling of known .. right ?

I tried slick tricks last year but I found that they were loud while flying. Kinda like whistling. Do you find that?

Nube, been watching you getting into bow hunting for a bit.

What was it that made you want to take it seriously ?

Not trying to pick or prob. but I've seen your post here for a while.
Youv'e been shooting a bow from along time ago but never hunted with it,
until this year. So what was it to bring it around ?

For me it was the challange ever since I was a kid.

To get so close and they didn't even know that I was there.
We were one.

Good job man, that's the way to do it. I've been shooting out to 70 as of lately it is a blast. Makes the lower range shots easier.
Also been shooting out of a tree, and low light conditions helps.

Yes they do make some noise which I dont like. For deer I think they would make a difference for jumping the string but for sheep which is my goal I'm not worried

I used to bow hun a fair bit when I was younger. I put it all on hold since I was outfitting the last 15 years and never had time in Sept and October. I've been trying to sell my camp half heartedly the last couple years and have decided to just run a lot less now so I can do some other things I have been wanting to do for years.
This year I also got the 408 sheep tag and so I am making up for lost time and getting going again. I plan on some hunting early Sept before clients come as well and the next few years will be doing a lot more. I actually love bow hunting the most but it is tough to get good animals on the wall. I've had a good time when I was into it more so hopefully this tag will spark the interest to start going more often
