Who makes the best pizza in Edmonton

Been making my own pizza the last few years because I never found any good pizza places. So have there been any new places in town l that make a good pizza ?

My vote would go for Royal but only the one on Whyte ave. The other locations just don't seem to create the same pie. Victoria used to be great but they closed the doors a while back. Brados on Stony Plain road is good and so is Coliseum Pizza on 118th. You can get in shape dodging bullets on the way in and out of both too so big bonus.

My personal favourite is Zambellis for 25 years now, beef and mushroom and fresh tomatoes. I could just eat the crust alone. I don't like the original Italian pizzas loaded with tomato paste, just too acidic for me. The only problem with the westend location is the grouchy rude manager.

By far 'BEST' pizza in Edmonton is ' Friesen' They make them fresh each day at their stores in special dish you can load into your oven at home.

If you are in or around the NE part of the city, here are my recommendations:

Just before we moved out of the city we discovered Maple Pizza & Donair on 50th St. - best takeout pizza we could find in the area and they also have good wings. Believe they are a bit of a 'newer' place, I don't think they've been around for much more than 3-4 years or so.

Franco's Pizza & Steakhouse (also on 50th) had been our go-to, but takeout times were very long and often the pizza was cold by the time we got it.

I would also throw a vote for Tony's on 111th - very good pizza but a bit sketchy area.

Although not exactly pizza, I would also recommend Battista's Calzone on 118 Ave - delicious calzones and you can even purchase some to freeze and cook at home. Again, bit of a sketchier area, but worth it.

Every person from out of town we take there always ask to go back to Monty's when they come back to town. I have friends from all over the metropolitan area that will drive across town for it.

As for the Royal on 199, I'll stop at pizza 73 or Dominoes on 199 before Royal pizza. My wife and her family used to rave about royal pizza for years and now agree its nothing special. I think they were likely great at one point, and now are just coasting on their past successes.

agree with the Royal Pizza"still making it average" should be the slogan.... when you pay good money for a product, it should be of good quality... not so much with Royal... I can think of several places I would prefer to order from

I mentioned earlier that the Whyte Ave location is the star of the chain but I still prefer knowing what I'll get to Monty's hit or miss. Used to like Victoria on 156th better than both to be honest.

What we get out here for skids is pretty far down the ladder from what's made in Toronto imo and miles down from a real NY pie. Used to crack me up when work associates from south of the 49th would ask, "why do you cut pizza into little squares up here?"..haha.

Hard as it is to believe the hotspot for pie in western Canada is Regina. Its actually pretty well known. If you like them thick and gooey, or as we used to say, a heart attack in a box, Regina is the place to be. Houston Pizza is a highlight.

Just up the road from the Riverside golf course is Dallas Pizza and Steak. They make a good pizza. Royal is good but expensive when compared to the others in the hood but you get what you pay for.

I am surprised nobody mentioned Italia Mia pizza in Edmonton on 149 street and stony plain road. Wood burning oven, thin crust real pizza neapolitano, great salads etc etc etc….

That’s by far our favourite right now. They also make calzones, an awesome burata salad and a few other things that are delicious.

for "old fashion" pizza my favourite is the capitol pizza on 144 ave, it's the original location.
I don't know if its still open during covid but there is a lovely place at NAIT called mercante inside the CAT building on 118th ave, they have a big wood stove and they do excellent thin crust.
Of course there's Versato's where one slice is all you need, I usually will get one fresh slice of trex then on of the half price cold slices from the fridge for my lunch the next day
and finally there's tony's which holds a special place for me as the pizza crust was the first bread my parents fed me as a baby!

Too bad about your luck at Monty’s. Never had a bad pie from there. Where as Royal I’ve never had a great pizza. Don’t get me wrong, it’s good, but has never lived up to the hype I hear so many adorn it with. The in laws would only ever order from the white location.

I grew up in Estevan, I believe that is where Houston pizza started actually. They were (maybe are, been a long time) a good pizza but the tower restaurant was better. In Sask, my favourite pizza was Verns pizza as someone mentioned earlier.

PM pub on 156st and 107ave makes a good pie. If you like donair pizza they make one of the best.
