Default Fly fishing Sylvan lake

Hi, I am super new to fly fishing and my family is going to Sylvan lake this week. I'm going to take my spin rods out on the boat with me, but is it worth taking my fly rod too? Any pointers would be great

Thanks

Get out very early on a calm day and sight fish for the whitefish, just use a nymph and fish in fairly shallow water, it can be a lot of fun

stripping a leach pattern on the bottom with a sinking line can find you a walleye if they are in the right spot. I like that 10-12' range.

Try a small wire worm under an indicator in about 12 - 15' of water if you don't mind catching whitefish all day long!

Any fish that can be caught on artificial lures can be caught on the fly. No matter if you are using fly gear or spin casting you are trying to imitate forage with a artificial substitute.

Don’t overthink it just use the correct line to reach your target depth and the correct fly to imitate the forage be it bug or baitfish

I don’t post in the fly section often but have caught a lot of different species on the fly including species that are not commonly targeted on the fly.
