Very, very cool. If I recall correctly, that Antartic rescue mission was maybe the most epic in the history of flight.

If you were part of it, I not only tip my hat your way, but would greatly encourage you to take the time to do a proper thread up for us at some point in time........... please.

Yes, we did a couple of seperate Antarctic Rescue Missions in the mid 2000's. These took place in the Antarctic Winter, when the cold and dark preclude any flights on the heart of the continent.

I was part of the support crew in Calgary, but was not on the missions.

During the Austral Summer, we fly for several governments, mainly doing Science Support Flying. We currently have 13 Twin Otters andd Turbine DC-3's being prepped in Calgary. They will start leaving for the long trip to the ice in just a few days.

I, personally, have been to the Antarctic 3 seperate times to fix various aircraft. The pictures above were from February 2008, when I went down with a crew of 4 structures and 4 maintenance to salvage a crashed DC-3. We got it off the ice, just before winter started to set in, and by October of 2008, had it overhauled and ready to go back to work.

Thanks Treeguy, for the kind words. KBAL is a great place to work, and god willing, I will be here for a long time!

Awesome. I was with Standard Aero in Winnipeg then. We put the PT6 engines together for KBAL and if I remember right the ones on those rescue missions were AeroBlue.

I don't know if they still have all of your parts or not but we had a seperate cage of just Ken Borek stuff back then.

Yeah, Standard did alot of our engines. Did you know Martin Lavoie? When he was out in Alberta, He was one of my hunting partners.
