Default Helmets while hunting?

Do you guys use helmets while out on the Quad hunting and are the Wardens enforcing it? Was checked last weekend and warden said, I know they're a pain while hunting so I'm not giving you a ticket. Is this how they are dealing with this in general? I was checked the year prior and though we were by the quads, the warden checked the tags and what I had shot, saw he had no concern otherwise.

Curious to hear how their enforcing it too as the last 2 seasons we have been hunting moose on private lands and haven't been to our normal crown land zone where the atv's can drive 24/7 during the hunting season.

Default Helmets

I was stopped and was not wearing one. It never even came up in the conversation. Its my understanding that farmers and FN are not required to wear one.

The majority of ATV-riding hunters I have seen this year weren't wearing helmets.

Was wondering whether it was being enforced...

Default Hunting religion.

I joked with the officer last weekend, I said "I thought about claiming to be a Sikh, I would just keep a towel with me and use it when needed" he just laughed.

Come on Hilgy, they have many more rights than you or I, even though we are all Canadians.

FN are subject to the same laws when riding atv’s on crown land as are other hunters except for Sikh’s based on religious grounds.

Curious how you're "hunting" while driving a vehicle (OHV's are considered vehicles) ?

So you're saying you can't hunt out of a truck? Do you know what the definition of hunting is? Should edit your post while you have time

I'll let my post stay as it is... The members here will probably spend more time picking yours apart.

I am not picking his post apart at all. I know Mountain TI and I'll tell you that you will never find a more ethical hunter.

I hunt out of a vehicle sometimes. I don’t shoot from it though.

interesting topic and what I'm seeing here is a lot of people wearing helmets only because it's a law and looking for any reason not to wear one. Doesn't anybody wear a helmet just because its smart thing to do and you only get 1 head and once you break your brain you can't fix it ?
I've been exposed to enough ATV head trauma from safe, experienced ATV riders that I wouldn't get on one without a helmet regardless of what the rules are. Just sayin...

It comes down to the application. When I rode my atvs for recreation, I rode very differently, so I always wore a helmet. When I rode an atv while hunting, I rode at slow speed, and I chose my trails very differently.

If you have a Side by Side, and wearing the seatbelt, you don't need helmet.

Trail riding I wear one, hunting no as I have a Rhino.

Thing that sucks this year, there was no moose camp for me...too busy. I will finally get out this Monday for elk putting the miles on by foot along the river valley. Probably be my only day to hunt , maybe the Nov.24 weekend. OK I am done whining...lol

This is my first year hunting since the new helmet rules came in to play. My biggest concern was hunting in -20.

Example: Park ATV hike a couple hours come back to a block of ice helmet.

I was fortunate enough to fold my tag before the weather dropped too cold, but my strategy was:

1. lock helmet to ATV
2. put in helmet bag
3. I purchased a thin balaclava to put on under the helmet
4. Not put on helmet if it's a block of ice

I had a couple days of heavy snowfall and -10 ish; this strategy seemed to work fine.

A helmet saved my life about 15 years ago while I was hunting... so you bet I'll always wear one!

That sounds like the CO being a reasonable guy and not ruining your day. The law says you should be wearing a helmet and the next CO may issue a ticket. Precedent doesn't matter here. Helmets are for sure a pain, but so are alot of laws and here we are.
