Default Darn Tough Socks?

Anyone wear this brand of sock? What’s the good/bad?
I’m looking at Darn Tough Hunter Boot Cushioned.

Not cheap, but they won’t let you down.

Best socks out there.

Pricey, but not much more than other quality, similar material socks. I have 4 pair. Will buy again. I wore through a pair of the "smart wool" brand so fast my head spun but I've had most of these for two years. Definitely not a daily use item for me, but the comparison between the brands stands: Darn Toughs are superior outdoor socks.

I’ve had piles of socks, experimenting with sheep hunting. Darn Tough are the absolute best ones I’ve found. Very durable, comfy and look good too. Huge fan now and won’t buy any other hikers

I thought they were ok. For the price they didn't last longer than any other sock I have and they have holes worn through just as quick. I thought them to be a misnomer.

I take double E in a shoe. As I get older my feet seem to have spread.
I find the darn tough sock too tight for my feet. I do not put them in the dryer but let them drip dry. Not my go to socks.

If you have very large Calves they aren't a good choice. They are so tight they actually caused bruising. Took them back for a refund.

I've had both pairs for 5 seasons, no rips or wear. Great socks. Can't put a price on your feet.

It will be a frosty Friday in July before I pay over $30 for a pair of socks.
I buy Mark's Below Zero wool blend socks in a bundle of 3 pair, when they come on sale.

haven't tried Darn Tough, but the girlfriend loves them. I am going to give them a try.

Smart wool = some models are excellent, Hikers. Some other thinner ones not so good.
Icebreaker = excellent socks for me. Have 2 pairs. these are mid to thin weight.

Icebreaker merino gloves haven't faired so well. Still looking for a good merino glove.

I have 2 pairs of that sock. Worth every penny. Far better that similar offerings from SmartWool and Icebreaker. I have had 2 pairs of icebreakers that wore through in one day.

My lousy 2 cents.....

Ive tried many types

I found that light merino socks worked best. The reason is, if you have a good boot, these socks allow the boot to do its job. Thicker socks are not always the answer. Sometimes the tight fit in the boot actually defeats the design of the boots warmth

I do find that any sock with cotton is useless unless its in a running shoe at the gym

For winter, i wear light merino and my Muck boots or my -100 Cabelas boots if im skidooing

Always read the package. Some merinos are 20% ....useless

Go 100%

I used to wear Bama in my big moon boots but ive changed that. Less bulk and im not adjusting every hour

Funny enough, my fav are Ralph Lauren merino dress socks.

I found them not so tough and very tight around the leg BUT I sent them back and they sent me a new pair just like that

I’m looking forward to trying a couple pairs of these I run the mid weight Kuiu socks in the mountains and have had great luck with them.

I took two pairs of DT socks to New Zealand and wore them the hole time one month with very little cleaning. They lasted two year after that. It seems some models last long and some don’t. Best part is to send them in the mail and get nice crisp new ones back with no hassle.

DT is what I wear when the temp drops. I have zero complaints. They are the best wool socks I have ever purchased.

Just used them on a coastal goat hunt for a week. Will be switching to them regularly from the smart wools.

Default WIGWAM merino/silk hiker heavyweight

Bought a pair nearly 10 years ago... Still no holes, and still warmer than the rest of my socks. And comfy too !

Pricey ($30/pair), but worth it if you want warm feet... Just ordered 2 more pair from this place (FREE shipping over $50).

* Materials: 61% Merino Wool, 28% Nylon, 10% Silk, 1% Spandex

For now, I ordered two different pair of Darn Tough Socks to see which type I preferred.

Mountain Over Calf.......$28.95

Mid Weight Hiker Boot...$32.95

I'll order several more pairs of the type that I prefer.

The Wigwams have worked well for me as well.

I’ve got or tried more than a few pairs of smartwool, icebreaker, and the darn tough. Of the three the icebreakers have given me the best performance and life. The darn tough are fairly robust but make sure to size up well and always hang dry as you’ll be fighting them on and off your foot otherwise.

I love my darn tough. Best part about them is free replacement if you wear them out. I've worn out one pair, (well my one sock). Took them back and got a free pair in less than 10 minutes. No receipt, nothing. Had friends do the same. They seem, expensive but for that kind of life time warranty it's totally worth it.

Cabelas had basspro hunting socks, 81% Merino wool for $12/pair

Bought 5 pairs when they had em and 3 years later my first pair is still holding up and are super warm/comfortable.

Icebreaker medium weight are my favorites, have 5 pairs, at least 7-8 years old. Can’t wear them out. On my third pair of boots in the same timeframe.

Darn tough has a good reputation, but like any merino product, how you care for it will make a big difference in how long it lasts

My wife says I'm crazy for spending so much on socks, but it's all I wear, for work, pleasure, and hunting/hiking. I have zero issues running 3-4 days on a pair of socks backpack hunting.

Default Winterborn Alpaca Sport Socks.

Was gifted a pair of the "Darn Toughs"and they did not last any longer than my Duracell bunny Wigwam Merinos.

Friend handed me a pair of Winterborn Alpaca's and only got around to them 6mnths after the fact because I couldn't source my go to Wigwams-

Surprise surprise the Alpacas are tougher/last longer than anything I've tried before. Tad less warm than the Wigwams but equal with a pair of polypro liners for -10C and colder.

Default Best Sox ever

I have smaller sized feet 7-7.5 and wide, high instep. Primarily all I wear are Darn Tough Sox, have many pairs and they seem to stand the test of time for work and play. Been wearing various pairs for 3 plus years and not had to send any in for replacement yet. Will continue to support them.
Cheers,
j
