Default Elbow River

Anyone hit up the Elbow downstream of HWY22 and have a beginner tip or two? Was thinking of a afternoon excursion, and its me first time.

I've fished it just west of Calgary not as far as 22 but fish it just like any trout stream. Not sure your knowledge or skill level but there is lots of info out there on fishing trout streams. Some quick tips. Fish runs will be your most successful with a stimulator and 2-3' down a dropper nymph. Like a copper john. Those are both good all around flies that represent many things. If that doesn't work just keep changing it up. Most important is to keep your presantation drag free.

My "tip" is to find better water! The Elbow isn't a great fishery. There are fish to be had, but they are few and far between!

It's a good place to practice your casting.

Don't know if the Elbow is a good place for fishing...

The elbow is fine if you know what youre doing. There arent as many fish as other rivers in and around calgary but theyre there. Try stimulators and fat alberts with a dropper of some kind. A may fly nymph of any kind really.
Ive always had luck in pmds and other small parachute flies....namely white ones.

the elbow is great downstream of 22, if you keep going downstream until you hit the bow

I used to have a "go to" spot on the elbow. You could go catch browns, brookies, bows and the occasional whitefish on a dry fly. Nothing huge, but still lots of life.

Since the flood, I have been back twice. Lots of bug activity. No evidence of fish anymore.

Sad, some really nice looking spots on that river.

Big pool downstream of Bragg Creek has lots of fish in it. Caught many a nice brookie there.

Hint...it is right by the road.
