Default Bears Bears Bears !!!! Spring recap from BC

Hi folks

Just wanted to share some pictures and smiles from our bear hunts this spring. We took 14 hunters and everybody but one hunter filled every bear tag they purchased. One picky long time client passed on three different 7 foot boars the last week of our season holding out for a true giant. ( I would have been happy with any of the three he passed )
We killed 21 black bears and 1 grizzly in our three week spring season. We saw a ton of bears, I stopped counting week two when I reached 120 bears by day 10. Lots of big bears were seen and a few missed. We harvested 4 bears over 7 feet squared, 15 bears over 6 feet squared, and 2 that didn't make 6 feet but those were both colour phase bears with beautiful coats.
Our guides did great and the hounds were simply on fire treeing almost everything we cut them loose on, including a huge 7'6" squared boar with a clean 20" skull.
Hope you all enjoy the pictures and a link to a video of a good 7' squared boar with a 19" skull

Congrats. That blackie in the back of the pickup is a true pig. What a bear! Looking forward to reading about your next season!

Congrats on a great spring season Tork. Some magnificant bears on display. Your clients must be very happy.
Have to say that I never even thought of using dogs to hunt bear. I don't think you can do that in AB.
I love the pic of that fellow with the recurve bow, and what looks like homemade wooden arrows. Do many of your clients bowhunt?
I see your truck still has AB plates. LOL

P.S. Did you get that plane for Christmas?

Some nice looking black bears there, was the grizzly a young boar or a sow.
Were the bigger bears taken by spot and stock or with the dogs.
The pics show that the bugs were quit abundant as well.

Can't hunt bears in Alberta with dogs no, stupid rule if you ask me. And we do get the odd bowhunter in for bears and moose up north, although I prefer rifle hunters in camp The guy in the picture above was deadly with his recurve though !!!

That truck still has Alberta plates yes, long process leaving a province after 20 years. Still have a couple Traplines in my name there so can't completely exit stage left yet.

And I did get a plane for Christmas, just not the one I was hoping for lol This one was enjoyed more by my 4 year old, my wife thought it was hilarious

The grizzly was a young sow. I have trail camera pictures somewhere of her from last year when she was in much better shape. We spotted her at about 80 yards and stalked up to 330 or so. She was skin and bones so when looking at her at distance her legs looked long and the head in comparison to the body was big.
She squared 6'6" with an 18" skull, but not the bear we were really after. Sometimes it goes that way, hunter was happy with the amazing hide so all is well.
The two biggest bears were taken by spot and stalk. But we did tree two bears over 7 feet this year, which was a first for me. Normally those big bears play out their end game on the ground.
We ran one giant grizzly with the dogs after we had killed this one, the boys said it was a pretty wild bay up down in a canyon. Our grizzly hunter next year is going to hunt behind the hounds, so it should be a pretty exciting hunt !

And yes the bugs were bad at times for sure, but big bears make them tolerable lol

Ya this is on the BC side of the Alberta border. We hunt in 4 different MU over there. I've got two concessions with about 4 million acres total of exclusive guide area.

And thanks, clients were pretty ecstatic with the bears that were hitting the ground this spring.

Thanks for the kind words everybody !!!

I love the hound hunting more and more every time we cut loose on a good bear. The action is pretty intense and it's a really different way to hunt them. Plus if you get to the tree and it's not what you're looking for, it's kind of like catch and release hunting 😉

It was one of the best hunts I have ever done to be honest. It got me so ramped up I am actually going to start baiting next spring and want to take a few kids out. My daughter has one girl that says she wants to get her hunter training and go with us and she comes from a family that supports her but has no clue how she ever got the idea that she wanted to hunt lol

That's awesome

There's some big black bears around your Trapline too. I saw one of the biggest bears I've ever seen out there last spring. Didn't even have a license in Alberta ! Just the way it goes sometimes 😂😂😂

Did you go to the Liard Concession for Grizz this Spring? I would think there are some decent Grizz in that area.

Some nice colors on the bears you posted and some nice hides.

There are some huge grizzly up there, but we don't hunt it in the spring. Can't take the volume of black bear hunters up there and it's not runable with the hounds.

And thanks
