Default Elk hunting near bob creek wildland questions

Hey everyone!

I am just wondering if anyone has any knowledge of the area west of bob creek wildland.

Is it crown land to the west?

Any ideas on the elk population in the area of 402 and 308?

Thanks for the help!

Um. Populations are normal. Mostly crown land but SOME private land as well. Very little motorized vehicle access. Hope you got good legs or good horses. Good luck

There is in fact quite a bit of ohv access in 402. I've spent numerous long weekends quadding in there. You can grab a pdf of the trail map in the area from here

On the east slopes of the Livingston Range (ie. east of "the gap" you still have a mix of crown and private land. Generally you're ok if your on the north side of the Oldman River but please consult a map to be sure. iHunter app for your smartphone is good for this. 402 is almost exclusively crown.

There are good elk numbers in 402 (and probably 308 too). As others have said, you'll be disappointed if you simply hunt the roads or glass from your vehicle. This year, OHV's are not allowed in Bob Creek either. 402 is especially popular with hunters and OHV enthusiasts, and the combined pressure pushes the game to the fringes and hard to access areas. This year, there have been active logging crews along the FTR as well, which has probably increased the pressure further. A horse or a good set of boots and some motivation will get you back there though.

Best of luck.
