Who am I to question ones fishing techniques

My favourite rod, my very first high quality rod, my $125 rod with graphite shimano auto cast reel, is at the bottom of moose lake.

I've been using that technique since the early 90's

No way, you gotta upgrade to a Johnson! Until you do you wont know what you are missing. I did it and will never look back, I sure pity all the fools still using that archaic Zebco crap. You cant afford not to afford one really, unless your a total walleye rookie that is.

Rich bugger ...the 808 is Cadillac priced compared to my Zebco 33.

I did look at the newer spin casts at WSS today. Some were over a $100!

It absolutely excels at fishing jigs, both vertically and pitching, that's it's forte. It also works quite well for casting small cranks. You can even cast shiver minnows or rip small jigging spoons with it if necessary.

Paired with a high quality 1000 or 2500 size reel depending on your preference, it's pretty much the ultimate finesse walleye combo and it'll handle any fish from perch to big pike.

It won't work well for bottom bouncing or trolling big cranks, but you can go with a second far less expensive combo for that.
I am leaning toward the 821s

Default If you could have one rod

I have many different rods. Shimano, Fenwick, G Loomis.....but my favorite, go to rod, is without a doubt, is my St. Croix Legend Tournament, walleye rigging rod. Best rod I have ever used.

Yeah - I know the feeling. I sunk a $500-$600 set up at the bottom of Wab a few years ago. I'm pretty sure I was fishing with an AO member for the first time. That sucked.

I have to say, you handled that like a champ!

There is no way I would have come out of that one as calm as you did.

I wish I could try out half of these rods to see the difference a good quality rod makes.

A true blind test and see what rod really comes out on top.

I certainly feel your pain. They are a sweet rod for sure. That would be like losing a loved one. LOL.

Never understood love affair with short rods unless you just jigging under the boat all the time. My ideal walleye rod is around 9-10 FT long.

Ugly Stick Elite 7 footer is all you need. Bought one complete with a Shakespeare reel for the wife for $50. Used the money I saved to buy myself a new Minnkota.

Default Bought my rod

Just came back from Fishin Hole. Bought the GLX 8500S and put a Shimano Nasci on it.

Here is the text I sent my dear wife:

"Just to let you know, you're probably going to want to commit me, but I bought a rod and reel. A really nice one. Think cheap rifle. Thanks for being super supportive awesome wife of the year!!!! Did I tell you you're the best wife ever? You are, so don't divorce me."

You know sns2 I tie my son's fishing rod to the boat so he doesn't lose it.

Simple and cheap, it might be something to consider for yourself.

So far so good. Definitely a step up from the Legend Tournament Walleye. Super sensitive.
