Default Oilers Pick 1st!!!!

Hey Guys/Gals,

This is so exciting for our City, I cannot wait to draft day, this is the beginning of a dynasty team once again to happen in Edmonton. So it's between Hall and Seguin, who would you pick and why?

I think you're getting this confused with the Phaneuf trade.

Boy,
lotta sour calgarians - I suppose I would be too if we didn't make the playoffs and don't have a pick in the first or second round!

Guess its better than trying to make it look like having the first pick is really that huge that it will totaly change the face of the worst team in the league.

Ummm....it actually is pretty huge, take a look at the last 9 1st overall picks and tell me that you wouldn't want every one of them to play on your team.

Perhaps Utah's "dynasty" comment was too optimistic, but it is the start of the rebuild, and there's a light on the horizon, unlike the team in southern Alberta.

Sure a first round pick is huge but chances of that player fixing the Oilers problems is nil. They would need the last 9 first round pics to do that.

And chances of the oilers keeping that player is ever worse.

If the track record holds the same as the last 1st round draft picks they may not change the franchise but it's got be some sort of start in the right direction for the Oil. If the Flames can fix the riff in the dressing room and get the players to start respecting the coach/management maybe they can turn it around. Hard to fix deep wounds with out a change of some sort. Flames need some type of scoring, should have went after a scorer instead of signing 2 Goal BoBo. Sutter always likes to pick up those Alberta boys but that choice might of cost him his job in the long run. Too many years of high expectations that came crashing to the ground for he Flames. Pre lock out style of defense first and all the time is dead. I think the Oil are in a better situation, but I guess we will wait and see.

Isn't there some sorta consolation prize for fewest goals scored in the league, of which the flamers would be the clear winners

I have every confidence that the Oilers will find a way to screw up the team, first pick or not. As for the Flames, looks pretty bleak IMO.

I dont knwo why everyone picks on ONE team in AB, they both blew it in their own ways. Me being a Flames fan, see that the Sutters blew it. I love Sutter hockey but is it to "old school?" for the new rules. and Edmonton...well...they just blow...lol...bad year for them, hopefully both teams turn things around for next season.

it's to bad Boston has so many dman or I would like to see the Oil try and trade Souray and one of the young guys to Boston for the second pick I know it would have been a long shot but anything is possible

I think they will take Seguin cause he is a center and we will need an #1 center. Hall is an awesome player as well and the team that gets him will not be disappointed but it would have been nice to see them two play on similiar teams instead of Hall on a stacked team and Seguin carring the team himself.

My guess is Seguin

Kipper has to be an elite goalie to play in this town. Im sorry but I am a Flames fan to the end and I say we allow way to many shots. If a medicore/Good goalie played here would would have won half as many games. 6th best defense in the league and lowest scoring yet we almost make the playoffs. Thank Kipper. Hell, If we had turek we would be getting #1 draft pick and Oilers would be #2.

Oilers pick 1st...

Well get used to it, it's the only thing they're gonna be good at for a long time. That 1st round choice isn't a magic pill, anyone remember some whiner by the name of Eric Lindros?

Funny how everyone beaks the Oilers. First off, the are under new management/coaching and are learning a new type of game. Second off, they had 2 rookies in net for more then half the year. Third off, they battled through injury troubles like crazy.

P.S Atleast when the Oilers make the playoffs, they get passed the first round

And such high expectations at the beginning of the year too!!!

I've been around more Flames fans in the last six months than ever and its been an amusing time.
Cockiness at the beginnig, denial in the middle and confusion at the end of the season....
Really is amusing ...
Don't think their expectations for the next few years are going to be so high!!
