Default Winds effect on lake currents

How far down into the water column does wind effect lake currents? More of a curiosity than anything else. TIA

Deep ends

On where in the lake you are, have seen where high winds pushed large waves into a restricted(narrow) part of the lake and the return flow was strong and deep at 20-25' we were at. Seemed really weird almost like being on the salt. That was about the most extreme I have encountered though.

The shallower the water, the more it would be noticed.
