Default November 1st

Just a reminder that in a lot of the WMU's in southern Alberta, you can only hunt deer during gun season on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturdays. This year opening day is November 2nd, not November 1st as it is a Tuesday. Lots of guys make this mistake every year.

I've never read up on southern WMUs but from what you've said I understand that you can't hint Sunday-Tuesday's?

Look under the general seasons...it's right there. Wed-Sat only.

Lots of hunters make this mistake every year. They go out hunting on November 1st and shoot a deer under the general season rules but they are actually poaching because the season has yet to open. A few years ago, I was stalking a buck with my bow and a guy shoots it from the road with a rifle. I was belly crawling through the field and the guy didn't even see me. He drives right up to the deer as I get up out of the grass. He says "what the hell are you doing bow hunting" I say "what the hell are you doing gun hunting" He looks confused. Then the land owner shows up and tell's the guy that he's already called F&W for 2 reasons. First he's hunting out of season and secondly because the guy did not have permission in the first place.

Another thing that surprises me is just how many youth kill mule bucks with a youth general mule deer licenses in these 100 zones, every year I hear of a few good bucks shot in 108 by 14 year old kids.

Hopefully there legit. Could be landowner tags or youth partner licences. If not either of those, most likely unknowingly poaching. There was a post a few years ago about a dad telling the story of his kids first mulie buck at 14 years old. It was brought up that it takes 6 years to draw a tag for that specific WMU and it would be impossible for a 14 year old to draw that tag. The dad never responded and the post went away I believe. I'm guessing F&W got involved.

Yes I remember that post very well as it was me that questioned him, and unfortunately most of the case I'm referring to in 108 are poaching...

The odd thing - this is not a new or recent change in the 100's... Read the regs or at least the "Changes for 20xx"... I couldn't tell you when the season runs in lots of zones - cuz I don't hunt in them! But the ones I do hunt in, I know the dates well in advance...

South eastern zones as well IIRC , the 100's
Check the regs for each zone you are planning to hunt in is the best way

Some of the posts on this thread make it very obvious that some people simply don't read the regulations. And then some people end up poaching as a result.

It's in bold at the very top of the series regs. No tricks, smoke and mirrors or small fine print.

I have personally ran into several people who will hunt the extra wed-sat date in the month even though you only get the 4 weeks worth. I am sure a few clowns will be out hunting deer on November 30th in the prairie zones.
