Default 2013 Archery Elk

Got my season off to a good start when my buddy called in a 5x5 bull. The bull walked by me at 5feet. I swing around and shot him at 5yards once he passed me.

Broadheads only come in a pack of three...how many times have you gotten one shot at an animal with your bow, not to mention once in a while a second chance...but three shots would be truely rare...I only have three in mine as well...anything else is just more stuff to carry and drag through all the willows and stuff in the bush...it only takes one shot if you put it where it's supposed to go!

Haha! No denying it took more than one arrow. I shot him hard quartering away at 5steps and he took off through the thick stuff. We gave him some time and once we caught up to him he was almost done. I put another one in him to finish things.

Congrats. I was out this weekend too. They aren't calling where I hunt yet, but they're fighting.

What part of the province are you hunting? I don't want to know exact, just a north, south, central, east, west is all I'm wondering, just to get an idea of how the rut is progressing and where.

I was in Northern Alberta. They were bugling a bit, but mostly coming in silent. We heard 2 twigs snap and my buddy, Andrew backed off and called for me as this bull came in looking for the "bugling bull".

Nice. My favorite hunt by far is elk rut with the bow, even tho my favorite trophy is the whitetail. I guess it's the sound of the bull screaming, making your hair stand up that gets me..... Love it!
