Great shooting, Chris! Those Tikkas are silly shooters for the money, especially the LH ones...

Good targets, it is awesome to see what over the counter factory rifles are capable of these days.

The LH ones always shoot a bit better. The T3's and X's I have/had all seem to shoot really well for the most part. Especially with the right hand load.

I'm going to give my factory rifle a run at this in free hand.

Old Rocky Mountain House Vic got me up to speed last year on this.

Kinda like retraining the brain from my iron silhouette days of long ago. LOL

Factory 22 rimfire,,, followed by the full bore.

5 & 5 should be challanging out of 25 rounds.

👍

I assume these “challenge” threads are not representative of what is out there, but for what it is worth .... The numbers in the original thread (with over 40,000 views) posted in CGN in 2013 (where the OP tallies numbers) ... show 10 different rifles shot by 8 different shooters on the “successful list”. Also of interest, is that only 1/2 of those rifles are chambered in cartridges that would be legal for Alberta big game.

3 shot groups I might have a chance on with this.
I’ll be working on this as I also attempt the off-hand shooting challenge
Anyone else up for it?

I hope I don't get into trouble here, but here's my bone stock CZ-527. Five shot group at 102 yards with a sighter round.

I Think a lot of this success is due to the tailored hand loads.

I guess if the muzzle diameter is under .75 you're good to go.

This challenge remains the same as described in the OP which requires five groups, each containing three shots on a single target panel, no group exceeding 0.75”, from a factory rig with muzzle diameter less than 0.75”. Every hole counts.

Impressive shooting.
Now no one gets in trouble around here, but we’d love to see a five target paper with 3 shot groups on each
It gives you an excuse to burn some powder and load some more!

Is that a 223? Deadly little yotie rig there

Default Savage model 11 .308

When I shot this group at SPFGA last year, 100m range, I had to walk down because I thought my scope was loose or something was wrong... by far my tightest 3 shot group from any rifle at 100m. Hand loads using Hornady Eldx 178 grain. 1” orange target stickers... No need to put the callipers on this one 🤣

There are several options in the “challenge” series to choose from ... I’ll bump a couple that might be of interest so shooters cant pick the best fit.

Gave this a shot. Failed.

.71 .39 .73 .93 .71

Must of been the coffee. Or the wind. Or the sun.
Maybe next time.

That’s still really close and some mighty fine shooting!
Give it another go and eventually you’ll have a target for bragging rights

Come on we need some details on that rig. That’s a wicked group.
I shoot there as well. Let’s try to get some 5 target groups worth posting.
Maybe see you around at the range

The rig is nothing special. It’s a fully stock savage model 11, I painted the poly stock myself. Nikon prostaff on top. The credit is mostly due to about 1000 rounds of load data and diligent loading process. It’s my go to hunting rig, the only rifle I use for big game at the moment. I’ll take it out again soon and put some more groups together.

Nice shooting (& loading) & paint job (Krylon?), but I am more curious about the green Boyds PV behind it, (looks like a heavy varmint barrel?).
I am currently pillar & bedding a couple of similar stocks.

Good Luck, YMMV.

Some nice factory rig shooting displayed here by 6MT, DEG, and kuj ! Got to love the smell of spring fresh air with the odd whiff of burned powder.

The other rifle in the picture is youth axis in 243. The first rifle my fiancé bought to try shooting and hunting. I painted the original black stock green, did some trigger work on it. She has shot a couple coyotes and her first deer this past season with it. I just spray bombed them.

Bump ...
just haven’t had the time to develop handloads with my rifles but I tried 5 shots with a new bullet and a starting charge weight and it’s got some promise.
I pulled the 5th because I was supposed to be home and I knew it was my wife that texted when I heard the notification and I rushed the shot. Shame. For dropping the ball as a husband.
Once I find more 130gr Speer spbt, I think this Cooper 7mm-08 will be up to the challenge.

Well, my hunting rig for gophers.
Thursday, no wind @100m
Savage FVSS .22WMR (rimfire)
Five shots (lower left hole is two rounds)
Now it doesn’t do this ‘all day long, especially if there is any wind, but it’s not uncommon. Bipod and rear bag.
Exactly 1/2”
