Resize new Brass?
Do you guys just reload new brass right out of the bag or would you run it through the resizing die first?

If it came in a bag and the necks are dinged and not round I will run them part way into my FL die just so they become round when the decapper enters the case. No need to cycle then fully through the press. Or if I have it I use the Necksizing die. If they are higher end brass and come in a box (ie Weatherby brass) it is not needed.

I run them through a neck die to make sure that the necks are true.

If the brass is Nosler Custom or Lapua, I only neck size to make sure that the mouths are properly prep`d. If it is Remington, Winchester etc. I will full length size, trim and turn the necks, uniform and deburr the primer pockets, for the whole lot. Some say that it`s overkill, but I want every bit of accuracy that I can get.

Bumping shoulders on new brass is the last thing I would do. Why creat headspace issues right off the bat?

I simply check the necks, then stuff a bullet n them and shoot them, then go from there.
I tend not to bother sorting and dong all the other prep work I do on my match ammo for deer hunting, and if I am using Lapua brass I just do chamfer the necks and check the length after, that's all that is needed with it.

If the case necks are dented I will run them through appropriate the neck sizer die. One pass and then chamfer inside and out.

Bump em through a sizing die to true up the case mouths and necks, then chamfer and deburr.

In a bag of Rem or Win brass, you WILL find some with necks that are out of round. So, rather then sorting them, I run them through the die as well rather than sort them out, it only takes about 10-15 minutes. I barely lube them though as they slide through the die easily. And, chamfering and de-burring is a most. I also de-burr the inside of my flash hole, which only needs doing once.

Regardless of manufacturer I will run the brass through a neck sizing. If I bought "bagged brass" like Remington, Winchester or Federal then I will do a full length resizing of the brass before loading. I've found they tend to have a lot more dings and dents than high end brass like Laupa, Nosler, Hornady, etc. The Nosler brass comes chamfered and polished so just a tiny push to make sure the neck is the proper diameter is all I will do.

Good to see this thread. I have a bunch of new .284 brass for my M100 semi-auto and was wondering if I should run them through the die first.
