Default This year’s artillery

Found a new (to me) Remington 660 in 350 rem mag that should be the ultimate bush gun. Blew out a rotator cuff last year and waiting surgery but found I could literally handle this little gun one handed. Gonna make it work!
For the long distance stuff (mule doe and buck tags) I have a few stands and blinds rigged up for my new (again to me) Cooper 56 in 300 HH. I’ll have a tripod for shooting out of the stands so the rotator cuff won’t limit me.

Got me a Sako 85 left hand in my first .270. New Leupold on it. Should be golden. If is goes to the handbasket, then the back up is the Henry 45/70, or the goto Marlin .30.30.
Meh, I'm excited for the .270 though. Not gonna lie.

New RKS 26" barrel with Ron' favorite taper in .260 on a Highwall , but Jeepers , when I pick up that No.3 "Leeperbilt" it just feels right!

Since I will primarily be hunting deer this year, the Christensen in 6.5PRC will be my main big game firearm. The silly brake has since been removed.

Early on while elk are still an option either my Tikka t3 Featherlite s/s in 270win or my daughters Savage Youth in 7mm-08. Later on after elk have closed the 25-06rem could also see some action.

I had the chance to buy a 742 in Spring for a song. It’s in excellent shape and in 30-06 too. So far the little bit I’m shooting it I’m kind of liking it.

Default Using fixer uppers lately

I have been buying rifles with good bones but trashed appearances. Over the last 10 years I have worked from rechecking to cutting new and cold bluing up to hot blueing. Then I thought, instead of just refurbishing and putting them on the wall, why not hunt with them. Last year I started just that. It was a train wreck in 300 savage that worked just like it did in 1952 when it was made. I don’t know how to upload pics very well, so I’ll send this years pick next.

Default This years choice

This years selection is a Tradex special. I bought it years ago and just this summer took the time to completely redo it. It’s chambered in the 9.3 x 57. Loads are 232gn lapua’s pretty much mimicking the 358 win. I’m partial to peeps so a Lyman 48 on and built a blank for the rear dovetail.

I’ll be carrying a 30-06 that has a Tikka action and Jury barrel put together by Henry Rempel. Bought it second hand and can’t believe how well I have shot with it. Truly a testament to the work of Bob Jury and Henry Rempel.
Elk and moose on the menu with 180 Swift Scirocco when I’m not hunting them with a bowtech experience.
Daughter will be out for her first season with a Cooper 7mm-08 and partnering on my moose and mule doe draws

I repaired and recheckered the stock on a pre war pre 64 model 70. (1939) reblued much of the steel. Worked up a great sub moa load for it in .270 with 130 gr pro hunters. There will be blood.

Default Shooting irons

Dependant on if I’m sitting and watching, or tromping around, it will be my super grade 7 mm rem mag or my featherweight 7-08. Carrying that magnum around is a pain the rear but over never owned a gun that I have so much confidence in!! It’s been a tack driver right out of the box.

I honestly can't decide so far.

After years of owning it I just started loading for a beautiful Tikka M65 .30-06, I also just bought a Cooper 6.5-284 that I'm looking forward to getting to know... Oh ya, it has a Jury barrel, my first.

Probably my old Penrod Model 70 with a new 30-06 barrel. It wears a fixed 6X Leupold with the LR reticle. I had it out prone tonight for a trial run, and at 400 yds it’s ready to go.

It’ll be both the Gunwerks 7mm mag and the Winchester featherweight in the new Wildcat stock in 280rem.
