Good luck you will need it. I got a question for you. Why would you put in a draw you know nothing about?

Great first post.

Here's a tip for you. Nobody will give out info on an open forum so the masses can have it.

You will get a ton of replies saying to burn some boot leather and start scouting 2 months ago. There is a good reason for that.

So that being said, go burn some boot leather and start scouting. The elk are there. You gotta find them. Get some good maps and learn the places to stay out of. There are a few in that zone.

There's a reason you were banned the first time around.

Let me know if you need a partner to explore the area. I got tags for a mule deer and a whitetail deer in 408 and need to know more about the area too. It is a confusing area with parks, recreational and shared use areas.

I don't care were he puts in at all. I don't care were anybody applies. I just feel you should maybe go check it out first. It is people like this that waste tags because it is to hard after they get there and realize in ain't a slam dunk. There is another thread full of people complaining about how long it takes to draw a tag. This is one of those reasons.

So many people bitch and whine and complain about other peoples fortunes.
Don't be so sappy that u didn't get the draw yourself! I'd bet when or if u started elk hunting u didn't know anything about it either!

The two places I would concentrate on is the area below Wind Ridge and the cut blocks that are east of Mt Collembola. Make sure you have bear spray on you and make sure to be in good shape. Also be prepared for bad weather.

Yet another person who does not comprehend the Draw system.

Birdie, go have a ball. exploring was and is my favorite way of hunting this province. I have met a ton of great people over the years by doing exactly what you are doing.
Sorry I can't help you, I know nothing of that zone. But if I did, it would be posted here.

Jamie

I am still doing research as I have been applying for 11 years for my tag.

Just cause I disagree with people not going and looking before applying does not mean I am whining.

I understand it just fine. I don't think 90% of the people applying do though as we get threads like this after we read 2 months of dumb questions about draws and how they work. This guy applying there does not effect me as I don't hunt there. Do I know were to go there? Yes I sure do but I will keep that to myself. Good luck to the op. You have a month to find elk. Get off your couch and go look.

If you don't have a land district map, you need to get one - you can pick them up in Canmore at the SRD office (2nd floor above the courthouse) for 10 bucks. There are a lot, and I mean a LOT or areas you cannot hunt, and the borders are not mapped/signed in the field. The map has it all. There are north and south maps - you will need the north one.

You also cannot transport a weapon (bow or firearm) through a Prov. Park unless it is completely bagged, like in a gunsock, etc. If any part of barrel or stock is showing, they can, and sometimes do, ticket you, and it is not cheap. If you access any part of the area from Hwy 40, you will need your rifle/bow bagged while you travel through the Prov. Parks.

Hope that helps get you started!

Unfortunately your first post was met with less than helpful commentary.

Welcome to the forum.

Got Mule and WT tag as well. I am planning on camping for 5 to 7 days in late October but wouldn't mind having scouting partner(s). Let me know when you're going.

First advice, the guys are right you need a map, second advice get a gps and try your best to enter the coordinate of the boundary. I have never hunted elk there but I can tell you it can be confusing to know exactly where you are if you are not familiar with the area and don't own a GPS with map. Have fun, I will also be exploring new areas this year so I can have more option in the future. Some people on this site do not understand that some of us sometime have some family and work commitment that prevent us to do the pre-scouting that we were planning on doing.

Good luck and let us know if you are successfull

Can't help you out with your question, but over the last 2 years our group has filled 3 out of 4 bull moose tags in zones we have never been to due to the distance from home to the zone. It's fun to explore a new zone and expand your hunting areas. Best of luck on your tag! Post again when you have some field pics!
