Very nice bull munyee, i'm getting excited just looking at the picture. I'm off next week to try and arrow one myself.
A couple questions if you don't mind to answer? did he go far after the shot? how long did you let him bleed out before you tracked him? where exactly did your arrow go in(shot placement)? Just curious as I hopefully will get the chance to harvest a great bull like yours and haven't yet shot one with a bow yet. I know it may be vague questions, but just want to be 100 % prepared and confident myself.
Thanks and again tremendous bull!

Shot was a little forward then I wanted I shot through the meaty part of the shoulder, blew through half a rib bone and double lunged him. No tracking (but if needed to the blood trail was extensive and easy to follow) involved the bull jumped and walked 50yards in sight and piled over.

dang straight you should have! it was great. we where on bulls and cows everyday unfortunatley due to heat and the dry ground, combined with the mooses fantastic hearing many close but failed attemps.

As for the jerky? didnt get any made... how about pepperonie??? we definetly should make some plans for a shoot.

Nice bull!

Your lucky....I shot a moose on Saturday morning and the flies where INSANE!!! Tons of wasps as well... It was a race to get it cleaned and out of the bush.

I shot it close to first light...we had it cleaned dragged out, loaded in the truck, packed with ice, 2 hour drive home...cut, wrapped and in the freezer by 5:00 that afternoon. Thanks to 8 buddies....

Congrats, great bull. Were you calling, or was it a spot and stalk. If you were calling how well were the bulls responding. Cheers Pheasantnut

Thanx , we did call the first morning( thecoldest at 0-1degree with frost) and had a cow with 2 very young bulls come into about 100 yards... the cow left and the two bulls started paddle pushing which gave us a small period to close the gap while they were distracted. got to 77yards and the one bull heard us. The gig is up they looked and took off.

After that never had any resonses to calls. Infact located a lone bull decent size feeding got 200yards away and started calling, either my cow talk was horrible or he was into bulls lol cause after my first call he looked and took off like crazy.

Not wanting to risk that again the rest of the times we spot and stalked. which is how i ended up getting mine. He walked from the top end of a cut block to behind a small cluster of trees which devided another cutblock. We circled around into the other cut block and came up. we saw he was bedded down, then got up as if he saw something(us) and came walking towards us. At 60yards broadside i gave a grunt which stopped him and then stuck him.

Great story, sounds like a fantastic hunt. Did you notice any other signs of rut activity...rubs, pits etc?

Thanks heading out on the weekend to try again up in 510. Got to within 80 yards of a small meat bull, last sat, but then got busted (must have been my cat like stalking skills lol). Tried calling but no interest. Cheers Pheasantnut

We had a bull cross the road 500 yrds in front of us. We got onto a cut line, that we figured was 150 yrds or so from him. Set up my Montana decoy "Shania", and started calling. We had an immediate response, crashing in with a couple soft grunts. Turned out to be a 45" or so, double brow, 8 point. A decent bull. He held up at 39 yards in the lodgepole pine, too thick for a shot.

I was behind my nephew, the shooter. Thought I'd try to coax him in with a little raking and "paddle flashing", and a few soft grunts of my own. I rake with an elk shoulder blade that's stained a tan colour. It looks like a small bull antler if you want to "display" and sounds good too.

But, he didn't care for it and drifted back into the timber after a little bit. Turns out that we found a larger bull on the opposite side of the road (where the bull we called in came from), but by the time we got onto him, it was getting hot and he was moving into the trees. I'm thinking that this weekend, things are going to pick up! We saw a lot of rubs and friends of mine hunting elk have reported several moose pits.
