Default Testosterone Loss With Age?

Caveat: YES, I’m going to consult a physician. Just interested in your opinions.

I’m 45. Aggressively climbed trees until I was 38 (20 seasons). I’m also a ginger.

Was a wildman. Stereotypes do exist for a reason. Lol

Post 40, I found myself ‘mellowing’ out.

Changed jobs, as the world of trees has a shelf life with fairly limited financial implications. Mostly in an administrative role these days. Big change...

My family is obviously delighted with the new TG. I was too. Chalked it up to maturing. Lol

However, what I’m finding these days is difficulty getting motivated, reduced libido (God help me, did I just type THAT????) and getting emotional over certain things like intense television shows or sporting events.

Gawd, I sound like a chick here! Haha

Any advice would be appreciated.

Did you gain 20 and stop getting as much exercise?

Improve your diet, get more exercise and quality sleep and you'll be back to sporting wood in no time.

And you wont have to pop pills.

Your rack full of mountain bikes holds the key. Exercise. I notice it myself and I'll have months with tons of exercise and sometimes months with only modest exercise. The last few years its usually work related exercise, I've not hit the gym since I was working in Ft Mac three years back. Never personally noticed a low libido but I can relate to the waning motivation for other things.

Nope.

Still active. 5’10 and 170 lbs. Diet is solid. Put boots on three peaks in the last few years with my kids, with another planned this summer.

Been busting my arse at physical labour since I could walk.

Stepping into an administrative role has been easy, but seems to have had some sneaky side effects. Lol

I know.

However, the last time I hit a gym, Jim hit me back. Bad scene

Could be mid life crisis... Do you feel like buying a motorcycle? Do you feel like protesting the younger generation's crazy ways? Do you feel like a pervert when you go to the club and look at the 25 to 30 year old women? These are all signs of a mid life crisis.

Lool that's gold haha.

But yes everything you just described can be used as a symptom of decrease in testosterone which is perfectly normal after the age of 30 in men. Nothing too worry about, obviously your doctor will know best.

Side note, studies are now showing exercise does more for your brain, in terms of keeping it healthy and strong then those brain Games and apps.

There could be lots of things from a thyroid issue to vitamin D deficiency to clinical depression. I’m no Dr but a couple of months ago I stayed at a Holiday Inn Express!

In winter I try to get what sun I can, being in basements and boiler rooms for a living is generally not a great way to get abundant natural light at work. I’ve been taking multivitamins regularly and vitamin D’s as well.

I had zero testosterone in my system at 39 some 20 years ago and was on many types till they found the tumour, not a big one . I lost some parts and I am now good as new.Spent a fortune trying to get better and 7 years latter my night mare was over as the tumour was blocking the messengers to send testosterone down below from my master gland.

Most guys as they get older there T rate drops slowly so it's important to get it checked.20 years ago male urology was not the greatest, but has now come a long way in helping men with low T levels, I use androgel once a day in the morning by just rubbing it on me and I feel great.I use to get injections once a week and sometimes my level were 5 times higher then normal and I was like out of control.

To much of it makes you feel terrible then as it wears of you become like a race horse out of the gate then you crash. My boss on the pipeline of 20 years came up and told me I wasn't my self,i was making mistakes and I was like a pit bull and knew my boss like a father so he was worried, but my mind was fighting a losing battle and he notice,so I went in and got checked and the uro guy called me at 11 at night asking where I was and said there was something out of wack in my system and tests needed to be done asap.I flew to Edmonton 4 times for full body MRI'S at 10000 a pop, plus another 100000 in other places and in the usa and lord knows what in lost wages and finally Curtis Nickel after a couple tries found the problem in 5 minutes.

When older guys say there forgetting or grumpy or lose interest in things or sports you use to enjoy chances are your T levels are low with age, doesn't mean you have a tumour. Some guys levels start to drop younger then others and new stuff and safer treatments are around,so get checked and adjust your levels as needed to keep your body tuned up and your mind on cue.

Low T effects everything from your central nervous system that messes up your voluntary system and your involuntary system which you may not notice as it lowers slowly and cause some severe health issues and turn a real decent person into who he never thought he could ever be.But it can all come back slowly in most cases and stay true to who you are.

Google ,J Curtis Nickel ,he is the guy that has changed uro for men,the best of the best and he was my doctor and saved my life.He teaches doctors at the mayo and other docs all over the world in Kinston university in Ontario.

About 20 years ago my dr. through my medical said I had low testosterone. He gave me some stuff that you rub on you but when I searched the net at that time there was a concern that the stuff caused cancer. At that time I had an aunt who died from hormone replacement therapy which could have caused her cancer so I do not trust supplements. So I never took it. One natural way of increasing testosterone is to lift weights which I do not do. I think a good way to increase testosterone is to have hard days in the hills. But then what do I know.

You need to be careful playing with T levels, can relate to prostrate and cancer. Consult good Urologist.

Transitioning from hardwood to softwood? Yikes

Lower vitamin D levels from not being outside, lower testosterone from the lack of resistance training that climbing provides could be doing this. I’d definitely suggest some weight training. Cardio based activities don’t do it.

Better to ask than to live less of life. Good luck with the check up, hopefully it’s easily remedied.

An opportunity such as this to bust TreeGuy's proverbial balls does not come presented on a silver platter like this very often.

It's almost not fair!!

That said, I can speak for living the admistrative life, and TreeGuy is probably old enough to be my father if he had gotten started early.

Administrative stress is different than physical labour stress. There’s a reason why they say little things like walking regularly have a good effect on a person. I tend to bottle it up, and then when I do get out I nearly kill myself out on a hike. I’m not a small guy, and the last two years have crept up on me. Down 12lbs and another 50 to go. Its much harder than putting it on.

I'm in my mid 30's and I do notice a difference in energy levels, but as I get myself back into a reasonable semblance of a shape other than round, I find my energy creeping back up. Sleep makes a big difference too.

A squirrel with cleats still can't climb mine at 56. Touch wood.

Optimising your testosterone is just as much knowing what to stay away from as it is knowing what you need in your system for optimal production. We live in a highly estrogenic world and everything from the tap water (mainly glyphosate and flushed/excreted pharmaceuticals) to the plastics you drink and eat from.

T therapy should be your last resort because your T will be dependant on it for the rest of your life. You're much better off producing it naturally.

Start here, it is easy to read and navigate and will provide you many scientific research studies along with the information.

https://www.anabolicmen.com/

Naturally produced testosterone is like the fountain of youth. Because it is naturally produced it follows a positive feedback loop. You will seldom have 'to much' as it gets recycled and reproduced.

My recommendation is finding out what vitamins and minerals will assist you in the production, and what to stay away from. That site will tell you.

Testosterone gets lower with age, but depending on your symptoms it could be something else. Depression and stress is often is first noticed with declining libido. Less frequent erections can also be an indication that there is plaque build up in the arteries. Best thing would be to get a medical opinion.

TG

Deck party at my place now

I absolutely guarantee that if you come over, your “zip” will be tested.

If you fail here, you need to see a Dr

Then again, if you succeed here, you might need to see a Dr

Catch 23 situation

You might pass with flying carpets

Doesn't take rocket appliances to see that

Worst case Ontario, you get a needle every three weeks

Default testosterone...loss

Guys unless your T levels are abnormally low, your family doctor should be able to refer to you to a specialist to determine that. However loss of testosterone is normal as we get older. Just a fact of life. Big thing to remember is to enjoy everyday above ground , because life is truly too short.

Absolutely zero need to suffer with low T

Unless you have prostate issues. Then its a no go

I have friends who are on T replacement and their lives have changed.

Walking around gaining weight, under-sexed, depression??? What for??

Id rather quality of life than quantity.

Maybe easy for me to say since Im not in your shoes but if it can be fixed, why wouldn’t you?

Well....this thread went mostly how I expected.

Firstly, thanks so much to everyone who took the time and effort to respond either here or via PM. This community never ceases to amaze me even after about 15 years here.

My symptoms are not of huge concern at the moment, but I'm certainly going to follow up with a doc in order to get ahead of what I sense is begining to happen.

Primarily, my sense of it is lifestyle change over the past 6 years or so. I've gone from 20 years of being a professional industrial athlete, to embracing a far more sedate existence a bit more than I should of.

I suppose in my mind, being exceptionally fit represented working far too hard for way too little. Changing career paths that provided far enhanced financial security with a 1/10th of the physical effort was kinda like being on vacation if that makes any sense. Needless to say, I embraced propogating a 'Dad Bod'. LOL!

Time to hit the gym and drink less beer I suppose. Sad day....

Thanks again folks. Yer da best!
