Default Police Everywhere

The last two days I have seen an absolute ton of people pulled over in Calgary, it seems like every other street there's someone pulled over. Anyone know if there's a crackdown going on / changes to ticket polices, etc.?

Expired registrations maybe. Motor Vehicles doesn't mail out notifications anymore.

Calgary's traffic is so crazy I was thinking of getting a police escort next time I have to go there. haha

I heard new rules have kicked in for the CPS. Each officer is to write 25 tickets a month.

Found this. Take it with a grain of salt though.

http://www.thepointman.ca/traffic-ti....php#TTT-Quota

You bet!... and not just in Calgary… it's the same everywhere. You may think it's some dastardly plot, but it's really just a matter of quality control. What? A primary duty of uniformed officers is self-generated traffic enforcement and one assessment of an officer’s work ethic is to demand a minimum number of traffic tickets each month. On average, one ticket per day per officer for non-traffic unit patrol officers. Traffic cops are expected to have dramatically higher numbers because that's all they do out there. So there it is… never been anything different.

That doesn't explain though, why Calgary is the most heavily enforced jurisdiction in North America.

This is such BS. A police officer has no formal education and yet gets paid more than a skilled worker, or even more as someone with a degree.
Every time right before election, you hear how under-powered they are, how the force morale is sliding and crap like that.
Now you come to know they have quotas on tickets! Is this, how they keep the streets safe?

What makes you think they have no formal Education? At least one degree in Law studies or Enforcement related, other education related, sociology etc also preferred. Then you go to the academy.

Coming from someone that at one point had gotten through all the training with the CPS as I thought I needed a career change... after getting to the point where they discuss pay .... it would take me 8 years to be making what I make as a nurse... and the only time I would make more is to move up the ranks and work OT... wasn't a good financial idea at the time... so I stuck with what I was doing...

A man I know was biology student. Broke his studies in its fourth year and started with the police. No degree or any other related education.

Maybe....make the same amount of money? Compare job duties? What would you rather choose? Your arguement is based on apples to oranges in my opinion.

No one who has ever dropped out of post secondary education ever went on to have great careers in their chosen field?

Bill Gates.
Steve Jobs.

Guess it’s not possible to amount to anything and be paid what you are worth without a piece of paper.

Because when **** hits the fan most people would be running in the opposite direction of danger while a police officer is running towards it.

I doubt most cops enjoy giving out traffic tickets but if they are requested to as per their job they have to. Most people don't enjoy part of their jobs but doesn't mean they just quit and go do something else.

I don't wanted to turn this to a discussion about the police pay. What I wanted to say is that police force is costing taxpayers a lot of money and they are there to make the streets safe.
Is this how they make the streets safe? By giving 25 traffic tickets a month?

The only time i have ever been bothered by cops I was doing something illegal. Who cares if they have a quota, guess that can pay their "unskilled" wage. If they start falsifying charges to make quota that's one thing but if they are catching people doing things illegal well... That is part of their job.

I wouldn't do their job for 2X what they make. Not because I'd be scared but because of having to deal with people who try to get a rise out of them for the only purpose of getting it on video. I wouldn't last long.

Has been going on since last summer when the city realized they had a 100 million shortfall to make up. Straight from the cops mouth.

I guess if its so easy to become an officer and they make so much money for eating donuts and drinking coffee maybe you should give it a try, but maybe after you put a little research into it. But it is always easier to be a sideline coach and not have any experience in what you are speaking about.

Well I gotta say that from my experiences some of the most smartest highly educated people are some of the stupidest people I've ever met. You seem to fit that.

You went through all the training with the CPS then you discussed pay? Really? You are either not that bright or you are all bull. Currant pay grades are available way before you make your application. It is certainly something they would have discussed before investing in the cost to train you. I call BS!

One becomes a Police Officer for that specific way of life. To Serve and Protect the citizens...and to put scumbags away. Like it was said before, anyone can turn a wrench, but few wanna run into a **** storm most run away from. Kinda like Firemen and burning buildings or Paramedics rushing into a disaster.

As for tickets, it's kinda a voluntary tax. If you are dopey enough to break the law you pay.

I must have had a bad upbringing, I was a Soldier And Policeman, Military Police, for 20+ years. Need to give my head a shake.
