Once you’ve done that you’ll need to decide whether you’re gonna bow hunt or firearm hunt. If it’s firearms hunting you’d like, you’ll need to take the Canadian Firearms Safety Course(CFSC). Then apply for your Possesion and Aquisition Licence(PAL). Expect this process with your PAL to take 3-4 months. Then there’s practicing with a firearm, this isn’t a video game.
If it’s bow hunting you want to do, you’ll have to purchase a bow and all the gear, and begin practicing, you’ll need at least 3 months of practicing.
I d say expecting to go and hunt this year is a fairly long shot.
Oh, ya. Quite calling hunting a hobby. Hunting is a pursuit, bordering upon an obsession, mired in deep traditions, with profound responsibilities and ramifications.( you’ll learn this in your Hunter Ed course)

Jacob, while many may ready Dick's comments above as slightly negative (I don't), he's bang on with all his comments. You're about to enter into a way of life that all of us consider sacred and do our best to participate with the utmost respect for chasing our game.
I truly believe that if you plan on getting into this, the highlighted portion of Dick's comments above screams that preparation is the highest requirement above all. To be true to yourself and the game you chase, I'd prepare for next year. Plus, it would give you more time to meet a mentor and get some time in the field with them, without the anxiety of trying to fit training/licensing/mental adjustment into such a small time window.
You never stated where you are moving to? That may help find that mentor for you.
