Default UCP still plans on sale of public land

*****I know that politics are not allowed on this forum. Please keep the discussion to the topic at hand (Public Land Sales). This directly effects hunting and fishing in Alberta, so hopefully the Mods can keep it here.******

Yesterday, March 12, 2019, the UCP formally announced as part of their campaign platform that they are proceeding with their earlier stated policy of selling our public lands, if they are successful in becoming elected.

Go HERE (https://www.facebook.com/kenneyjason...37042233304073) to see the full video, with the public land sales statement at the 10 min 30 second mark.

As we brought to your attention last November, when this was first mentioned by the UCP, this policy is simply not acceptable to anyone who uses our public lands in any manner, regardless of political leanings.

Many of you took the time to send a letter to your MLA, or UCP nominate, and expressed your opinion on why this is a very short-sighted policy. BHA also met with the UCP, and several MLAs, and expressed our concerns with this short-sighted policy.

Since the message regarding the importance of public lands, and their value appears to have not been taken seriously, we need you to call, email, and visit your UCP nominate, and make sure that everyone you know does the same. We all have a voice in how our public lands are managed, and a message must be sent to all politicians that our public lands are not for sale, now or ever.

Talking points in your discussions:

-our public lands, through recreation, contribute to local and provincial economies in various ways (hunting/fishing equipment, gas, lodging, guides, outfitters, etc..) year over year, at minimal cost to the tax-paying public.
-as Alberta's population grows, public lands will become increasingly in demand.
-recreational access on private land is not guaranteed, as anyone who has asked for permission will attest to.
there is no substitute for public land when it comes to access.
-loss of wildlife habitat as private lands are converted to other intensive/exploitative uses
-decreased public land will increase pressure on remaining public land for hunters/anglers

I think we all have a dog in this fight if we have ever hunted on lease land. It's brutal getting on some of the lease land as it is now. Highly doubt they will let us on if they get the property rights for the land.

The BHA is concerned about loosing access to public land.

Now that is rich.

Carry on Jordan.

Ps. Your reign is soon over.

I have a lot of concern about the sale of public lands but I also think the devil is in the details. There are times when it makes perfect sense (like when the sold land for Ft Mac to expand), however some lease land doesn't make sense. It's short term gain without enough credit given to the long term value of it. I'll be talking to my UCP candidate and contacts.

The problem with these kinds of moves is that if you project forward, massive amounts of public lands will be lost. Ask Montanans.

But if you want to discredit the political party that is about to topple your favourite socialist, then it’s a great time to start fear mongering.

This was JK response to someone on FB.

Jason Kenney · 0:05 Thomas Sawatzky Thomas, if you own land anywhere in Alberta, it was "public land" at some point in the past. You don't support what built this province? We have 100,000 million acres of provincial Crown land in Alberta, and a lot of great farm land getting consumed by urban sprawl every year. Why not allow enterprising new farmers to convert some unused Crown land in remote areas into new, productive agricultural land? Alberta is not a park!

Anyhow, this specific issue is not anywhere on my Radar for this election. Perhaps someday but whats important is getting the NDP OUT! Brian Jean for as much as I like him needs to keep his mouth shut. HE can challenge for the Head of the UCP in 3 years. For now, sit down and shut up.

Lost to private holders vs lost to parks.

Thanks. I’ll take my chances on a new direction.
