Default Update!! What would you do with $1.5 billion dollars

So for tonight's Powerball Lottery the prize is $900 million.

http://www.edmontonjournal.com/news/...656/story.html

Even after the IRS take half you still end up with $450 million.

Personally that is too much wealth to suddenly for me.

I wouldn't play something like that.

But I know there has to be some on here that would.

We just see what??? 60 some million??? Here in Canada.

Even that is too much to sudden.

What would you do with nearly $1 billion dollars?

Net on $900 MM is about $380 MM US if you take a lump sum after tax.

If I ever won that much I would cross that bridge when I got to it.
There would be a few deserving people who would receive money however , and s few friends!

I'd finish my house off, including the building of the Garage Mahal. Family and friends would benefit to varying degrees, that sure would be a lot of fun dropping off gifts like cars and motorcycles on top of whatever cash they'd get. After the vehicle shopping is done then the recreational property hunt would begin. Not necessarily just one property either, perhaps something stateside anywhere from Montana through to Oregon. I'd certainly enjoy investing too, rather than burning through it like it was going out of style, with the economy as it is it's sure a buyers market. I have a few connections to people who'd know how to wisely invest and strategize such amounts, primarily a few hyper-wealthy people whose boiler rooms I've spent some time in. Certain charities would benefit too, heck some could even be thrown at a gaggle of lawyers and lobbyists towards improving our firearms legislation by removing some of the more absurd aspects of them.

Oh yeah, I'd also like to have my enemies driven before me, and to hear the lamentations of their women.

After a mil for each of my kids and grandchildren, the rest would be donated to benefit medical research ... probably focus on IBD.

I would move west immediately, either somewhere in southern Alberta or possibly in southwestern BC. Buy house etc and decide what to do with the rest of my life. I suppose changing ones name wouldnt be a bad idea, considering all the people that would come out if the woodwork trying to vaccuum money of you. Even with the annoyances I would love to accept the challenge of having that much cash!!

I'd lead a really comfortable life and donate a lot to charity.
My life is pretty good. I have a wife that I adore. A house I love.
Not a lot of debt...
Pay off the house, travel. Own some vacation properties.
Help family and friends.
Buy some toys.
I'm a humble man without a lot of wants. I'm already grateful for all I have.
I think the best thing would be never having to work again unless it was something I chose.
Kinda always wanted to open and run a small neighborhood bar.

Big patch of land. I'm thinking Okanagan, but maybe Alberta foothills. And toys to go with it. I have a lot of friends/family I would like to remain close to.

Some to friends/family.

A charitable foundation that includes educational grants, clean water and health care support in the 3rd world, and some form of biotechnological research.

A huge chunk of boreal land that's air access and a modest cabin.
Help out family and friends of course.
Probably launch a very well funded campaign to try and get us firearm and property rights and start a legal defence fund for people being persecuted for defending there self's or property.
And I would not buy a single new thing i could obtain slightly used just to avoid paying taxes on them out of principal.

Ten years? Might get 12 years if oil stays low. Should make fertilizer more reasonable to buy.

The news is reporting that this is now 1.3billion. I'd give 1/3 to the Cross Cancer and 1/3 to the Stollery. 1/3 amongst friends family and various other charities.

My thoughts exactly....buy a good sized tropical island and get it sorted just the way I want with a golf course and such.Tidal/solar/wind for electricity with no need to worry about gas other than the BBQ.Transportation wise I would opt for a Dornier Seastar flying boat.

Pretty much your own country really where you make the rules.

That's just stupid and shows how greedy and self centred people really are to allow a lottery to get that large.

Remember. After tax to take a lump sum you would get about $470MM US.

Not worth it.

I would likely buy a large piece of land south of Calgary with a spring on it. Dig it out with my own earthmover. Then have a private trophy rainbow trout lake. Have programs for youths. Loads of fun.

With that kind of money you could just about buy the next provincial election, send out your own version of Ralph Bucks.....

As for me, I'd be owning quite a bit of land somewhere. Miles of it. Maybe build a nice bunker there.....

Right now we Canadians are putting in too many orders and our requests are on hold.
It says to try back later.
I was able to log in a few times over the last couple days.
