Teck has been forced to come up with a water management plan. You can imagine the huge financial burden this brings in order to try and mitigate the variety of detrimental impacts caused by coal mining.

Get educated.

Are the companies that will operate in Alberta bringing this level of management? Are they making these long term investments. Will the facilities still be operating for decades after they leave the ridge tops?

Can the technology put in place even effectively control the levels of pollutants that will be released into the watershed?

Don't worry it won't happen in Alberta, right?

Our honorable government officials have already been burying important selenium pollution facts. The trust level continues to fall.

People would be amazed at the amount of science that has been done in the Eastern Slopes. Almost 3 decades of study went into the Bighorn Park proposal, from a baseline study that started in the mid 80s to usage predictions through the 1990s. I never believed that we would see the estimated 30,000 users per week that was predicted, yet last year that number was totally beaten.
Maybe now people will pay attention to scientific research, but based on the last election I doubt it.

Interesting fact from the baseline study for fly fishing folk. The highest number of inches of fish per mile of stream in the Eastern Slopes, was southwest of Caroline. Was being the key word. That stream and everything around it is now grazed. Last we fished it cattle were wading through upstream of us. Science and capitalism doesn't mix unless someone is going to get rich from it.

That's a lot of people. Are you going to do your bit to help those areas by staying home? Those cattle who were upstream of you, you weren't in the water damaging the river bed were you?
Why is the baseline study only for fly fishing folk?
Lots of finger pointing but why don't we start mentioning what we can do on a personal level rather than pointing our fingers at others and what they need to do. As I have mentioned before many locals are starting to do their little part for the environment by eliminating all non essential travel on private property with appropriate signage.
