Default 870 wingmaster

I was shooting my newish 870 wingmaster today and after about 10 shots or so i noticed my buttstock start to twist at the receiver. I could grab it and spin it quite a bit. Is repairng it as simple removing the buttpad and tightening a screw or do I have a bigger issue?

Remove the buttpad and tighten the stock bolt and you should be good to go.

^yep. 2 screws to remove the recoil pad, then you'll see access to the stock bolt. Give it a good tightening, replace the recoil pad. Even a bit loose, it shouldn't be able to "twist" or rotate too much..but ANY amount feels like allot when it's a gun stock that shouldn't be moving at all.

Don't get crazy with it, tighten it till it's good and snug and doesn't move, but use your judgment, don't over tighten, you don't want to split the stock.

I got the pad off and tightened it just hand tight, is there anything I can put on the screw to prevent it from backing off again?

The problem is likely that your wood (assuming wood) stock is actually shrinking or becoming punky due to oil infiltration from over oiling of the metal parts.
Locktite is actually a hinderence in this situation.

If it's a wood stock make sure the stock plate is in between the receiver and stock. Putting some blue locktite on the stockbolt is fine . Be careful that the screw driver is in the slot of the bolt and not beside it as you can crack the side of the stock
