Default Regal Visitor (Mature Bald Eagle)

My son took a picture of a rare visitor who appeared to be parked near the coyote bait this morning. Nikon D5100 with my 70-300 Nikor zoom.

We either had an immature one or a golden sitting on the next fenceline over two weeks ago but he didn't stick around for a picture as we had some pheasant hunters working the cover and fields with dogs that day.

Always a sure sign of spring when you start seeing these big boys and girls. Very common along the eastern Slopes during the spring migration.
Are they that uncommon on the flatland east of highway 2 in the spring?
Just curious.

Very nice Wwb, I am hoping to shoot some eagles myself with the new toy.

Don't think it's really unusual. See some every year around this time. We are on their migration corridor . They love calving season, apparently . Had one right out behind the house, last week, eyeing up the cats.

I think the eagle thinks your buffalo bait tastes good, hung around most of the day chasing the magpies away.

Saw three bald eagles in one day between cochrane and Red Deer on Feb 12. Was wondering if they migrate or not. Rare sight for me.

Yeah when boys and I used to go to Jenner we usually stopped at Joes in Patricia along way for open pit buffalo burgers!

Liked store was bigger and more complete than I was expecting for small town.
You just need a walk in smoker now!!!

I saw one this morning fly past my office window, then swoop down to try and take a pigeon.

Now I have what looks to be a golden circling high above the same area.

What I haven't seen yet out this way are any turkey vultures, though we must have them. I love those guys!

I've always wanted to bait them with roadkill or ground beef on a platform just beside me, and wait for them to swoop in and get some amazing pics.

Haven't found a willing field partner for that project yet...

Default turkey vultures

Used to see them in southern Ontario all the time but have never seen one here but that doesn't mean they are not here somewhere.
think there was a post a couple years ago about someone seeing them around RDR?

The big birds are in full flight down here! Ive been seeing 5 to 6 eagles a day around Lethbridge, and saw a dozen or so rough legged hawks in a group the other morning. Still a few snowy's kicking around too. I love this time of year!!

As for turkey vultures, ive only seen 2 in Alberta. One south of Pincher Creek, and one by Claresholm. Neat birds. Never know what shows up around here over the next month or so, always interesting.
