Smile Varmint Scope

I love AO soooo much, that Im going to let you all choose my next scope purchase!!
The scope is going onto a Savage Model 12 in .223
Mainly a gopher/yote gun with lots of paper punching inbetween. I dont want any 3-9 and I think that 6-20x,8-32x is too excessive.
Here are six choices Ive narrowed my choices to. Im sure that theres some other scopes that may fit the bill for what Im looking for, but these are readily available choices from retail stores.
If anyone has some insight into better prices or choices new or used please PM me!

Minox ZA5 3.5-15x42 for 510$
Millett MTS 4-16x50 for 400$ish
Burris Fullfield II 4.5-14x42 for 330$
Burris Fullfield II 6.5-20x50 for 400$
Nikon Buckmaster 6-18x40 for 360$
Nikon Coyote 4.5-14x40 for 400$

I don't like any of your choices, but I just purchased a Nikon Monarch III 5-20x44 for $499.77, that seems quite decent for the price.

I've had two Minox scopes in my possession, sent them both back and bought a Zeiss. A little more money, but the 50 bucks, I've already forgot about, and I have a life time of happy ahead of me.

I am not a fan of Millet at all, and I much prefer side parallax adjustment over an adjustable objective, which the Burris scopes have. The lower end Nikons just don't impress me with their clarity and brightness.

Not much to chose from. Given my experience with the Minox 4-20x50 - from an optical prospective, I would go that route. I doubt the mechanical parts are worse then the others. Glass is schott glass and the 4-20x50 easily beat out the Nightforce 5.5-22x56 I compared it to in all light conditions. The Vortex RAZOR beat both out in nighttime conditions. PM me if you want any pricing etc. or if you would like to see the 4-20x50.

I haven't personally looked through the 3-15 perhaps one day I will spend some time behind one and see. For varminting it is nice to have more power.

Good info so far thanks!
Elk; Im not a fan of adjustable objectives either, but the burris fullfield II 3-9 had really nice glass, as did the millet I once owned.
Mind you ive never looked through most of the higher end stuff.
I wish my budget was higher, but I put most of it into the rifle.

Vortex Viper 6.5x20x50 or 6.5x20x44 have nice glass and side parallax. There about 520.

I would save for a bit longer and buy something I really wanted. Take that $500 and put it away then add $25 dollars a week to it till you can buy something you will really enjoy.

Although I have moved away from Vortex, I will say within your price range you would be better off with the Vortex than what you have on your short list.

I have used the Vortex warranty and it IS as good as they say.

The side focus scopes apparently contain an extra piece of glass. The Adjustable objective scopes have less glass and consequently are brighter - say NF NXS compared to their BR scope.

Of course this only applies if the lenses and coatings are identical for the scopes being compared. If you are comparing scopes using different lenses or coatings, the scope with side focus could in fact transmit more light, despite having an extra lens.

Default bang for the buck

I have scopes from Leupold, Zeiss, Bushnell, and Nikon, dollar for dollar on a most any varmint caliber rifle the 6-18 buckmark is tough to beat. Monarch is nicer but it will not help you kill anymore effectively. That's fact Jack. FS

This one is sweet. If you get a mildot or ballistic reticle make sure it is in the first focal plane.

Nice! I have the 3-20 with P4L it is a outstanding scope, but it has two or three more zero's than the OP is looking to spend.
