Default Best 22 rifle

Got a Ruger 10/22 and might be looking to add to my collection. Maybe another given all the accessories, reliability, accurracy etc, Any other 22 rifles out there that are as diversified as the Ruger 10/22?

Ruger 10/22 and "best 22rifle" do not belong together at all. The 10/22 is a low priced rifle that offers decent performance, but it is not even remotely close to being considered the best 22 rifle. If you want a semi auto rifle, Volquartson, makes a much higher quality rifle that is similar in appearance to the 10/22, but it costs several times as much. In bolt actions, Anschutz is well respected, as is Cooper,Sako, and others, all of which cost several times as much as a 10/22.

I would call the 10/22 the best pound for pound 22. Just saying man...

The 10/22 is a fun pinker, I have the takedown version, and with the addition of aftermarket sights and trigger, it a nice little 50 yd gun.

No question it is popular, as they are selling for more than list price often these days. That said, they are a low end gun, and I would never pay more than list for one.

As was stated, for a really good 22, Anschutz, cooper, CZ and Sako are where it's at.

Dollar for dollar, CZ is the best value.

Default Cz 455

CZ 455 or older 452's shoot very well, nice actions and alot of rimfire value for the money...Surprisingly the Savages shoot excellent as well and are much cheaper.
Ruger 77/22's are nice also but will cost you more...look closely at the CZ's

I have a Ruger 77/22, and really like it. More money than the 10/22, but high quality, and under those listed above. It shoots very well, and more accurate than my other .22's.

I also have a 10/22, and an SR 22, and one nice thing about the 77/22 is that the clips are the same for all of them.

Nice little perk, there's my 2 cents.

The 10/22 is best when it comes to mods and aftermarket parts.....

Savage all the way bang for buck and accuracy. Anchustz if you have the money, very accurate rifles.

Good point if purchasing by the pound...and Federal bulk pack is perhaps the best pound-for-pound in ammo. However if you are looking for accuracy in a bolt action, consider Anschutz and Eley at the high end....CZ in the middle...and Savage at the lower price range.

I've had a few different 22's over the years.

Coley 64, now Savage, constant up keep would keep it running, for maybe 200 rounds.

Stock Ruger 10/22 if you don't mind having your thumb up your nose every time you shoot, or mind having a trigger, like pulling a coat hanger through a bag full of rocks, they are pretty maintenance free compared to other semis.

Highly modified 10/22, aftermarket trigger components, man sized composite stock, retro .920" barrel, shot the lights out with one brand of ammo, and when that ammo quite coming into the country, well it passed its best before date.

Savage Mk11, this one is my daughters, left handed and with an Accu trigger, stock dimensions are not bad, and with no crescent butt like the Ruger a slip on recoil pad made it man sized very easy. Feed it what it likes ( bulk ammo btw) and it is a mighty fine rig.

CZ452 American, added a slip on pad to this left hand beauty, and adjusted the factory trigger, and gee whizz what a doll, it prefers solids to hp's but the difference is about a 1/4" at 50 yds.

Best is a relative term to what you are looking for in this case.

There is nothing that matches the 10/22 for a cheap fun plinker that has a list of aftermarket mods to satisfy any desire you may have.

If you want a more accurate Semi auto the Volquartsen would be a really nice choice.

Anschutz or CZ make a fine acurate blot gun.

In this case I don't think there is one "Best" until you know what you want from it.

10/22 great all round plinker...i've had several over the years and never had a problem with any of them...sure there are always more expensive and better quality...but how do you beat the 10/22 for the price and reliability it brings to the table...unless you are shooting in competition why spend the extra money on a 22...makes no sense to me!

Thanks for the reply to all and thier thoughts. looks like a semi auto is more on the want list Kinda dressed up but need feed back on personnal experiences. Been around the remington 22 VTR I believe they call it and was not overly happy and my old Ruger 20/22 out performed it. What else is out there that you were extremely happy with?

.....interesting, I always say the 10/22 trigger is a lot like cracking open a beer can...

Hmmmm good .22's... CZ are really nice and accurate, for a bolt gun I'd look at Savage MK.2 target model, I'm developing a soft spot for a Marlin bolt action .22 mag I just picked up in a trade... There are a lot of nice .22 rifles on the market but it really depends what your looking for.

I'd say to for the volquartzen .22 rifles if your a 10/22 fan... They do shoot very nicely.

At one point I had a 10/22 and a Savage mk 11, I still have the Savage. The Ruger was probably a more ruggedly made rifle, but even after some modifications the bone stock Savage was far more acurate. I shoot my .22's a ton, so while semi auto was fun the bolt action was quicker and easyer to clean as well as more reliable. JMO

If I was in the market for a higher end .22 I'd probably go with the Ruger 77/22 or a CZ. For what your intended purposes seem to be you may as well just keep moding your 10/22 though.

just like every model has its lemons, maybe every model has a few standouts as well. I mean, there's nothing extremely magical about a marlin 980ss, but mine is fantastic; absolutely accurate as heck right out of the box!

If you are looking for a big step up in a semi CZ and Anschutz both make semi autos as well as great bolt guns. HK and Walthers are two other very good high end choices. Depending on your budget any of them will serve you well.

You might want to look at the .22s on offer at Interammo. I picked up a lightly used Walther KKJ at the Thorncliffe Gun Show a year ago...superb trigger and accuracy. Doesn't get any better than that as far as I'm concerned.
