Default magnum primers...

I was doing some reading up on primers. I found a few sights that said using match grade magnum primers in a large rifle platform might promote more uniform powder combustion. Anyone have any input on this subject.

I am currently loading for a 6.5/06 standard shoulder. Just wondering if there would be a benifit to using magnum match primers? Thanks,

Tone

no need for magnum primers in that round. as a general rule, less power is better regarding accuracy. The only time that magnum primers should be a consideration for that cartridge would be in very cold weather.

Ball powders, cold temps, and 55+grains of 4350 or slower powder.

That's my observations as to where magnum primers are most suitable, although the best danged 30-30 load I ever used was with a CCI 250 primer!

I have experienced more consistant velocity by using regular magnum primers in large or medium cases when shooting cast bullets with reduced charges of faster powders.
As always, start low and work up, keep good records and use a crony.
YMMV
