Re: rabbits
In your bush, locate the more well used trails, generally the ones that lead from one thicket to the next. And as mentioned, don't walk on them. Set a snare on the trail as mentioned using about a 4" loop set about 4" off the ground. Some overhead obstacle that confines thier movement is a good set. Make sure it is secure to a branch. repeat, setting about 1/2 doz snares. Your placement should not be in the thick of things, or in the open, but in the transitional cover. Your group of sets should cover the width of the bunny cover, including all major trails. Now all you need to do is to circle around and push the bunnies through the snared area. They are going to be live when you catch one, so be prepared to dispatch of it in a humane manner. Allowing one to die in a non locking snare overnight is not my idea of humane. Be careful not to disturb the trail, as you can reset the snare and push those bunnies back the other way. I wouldn't try to push more than say 50 yds of bush on either side of the sets. Which means as you approach the sets, and if you've seen bunnies ahead, but non in the snares, then circle around and push them back. Once you've caught a few, or scared the hell out of them with several pushes, collect your snares (don't leave them out ) and select another good looking section of bush to do it all over again. In my young days I was able to do about 3 different sets, snaring up to a dozen bunnies (on those good years) in about four hours. Good luck.
