Default Getting foot hold traps ready

I dyed my leg traps last year and caught fox, Fisher , and small yotes. Should I be preparing my traps in a different way to catch the bigger smarter ones . Like waxing . Can not hang anymore snares where I’m at . Any tricks ?

I’m by no means a full time footholder but have dabbled with them. Waxing your traps will help protect them and speed them up. Not sure if your issues could be related to lure/bait and maybe scent control. I’d reboil my traps to remove any scent from the previous year. Try another lure or bait.

You can even try double sets with a scent post or flat set using urine as well as your classic dirt hole set and vary it up with small mice size holes to larger size holes, bed a trap in the back side of your set is another tool, sometimes those wise ones snop around the back door.
