An hour or so after drinking too many (???)
Whitetails: end of July. Too many variables still in play. 4 weeks of consistent pattern usually gives me an opportunity in the first couple weeks of sept., assuming the food sources don't get harvested.
Moose/elk tend to have much larger seasonal patterns, boots on the ground in August does a lot more good than cameras.

I've started scouting my "spots" now, looking for signs of activity.
I'll start leaving my cam's out for more than a week in July/August.

I don't technically ever stop scouting.

Right now but hopefully high enough and out of sight from the two legged thieves.

Just put fresh batteries in my cameras, and thinking of putting up a few more stands. Love looking at all the pics you get in spring/summer, but must admit that sometimes I get "attached" to a lot of the deer that you watch for a couple months before hunting season starts. Would love to harvest a buck in velvet this year.

I've had mine out since middle of May. Never know what might be on them, I like looking to see what surprises there might be!

Putting mine out in the next few weeks. I like to have atleast a month of photos prior to season opening to figure out recent patterns and what is around.
Made the mistake waiting tell august last year and with new locations had 2 cams that took majority pics of long grass or a near by branch moving with the wind. So this year I figure put out early and check/replace cards and batts start of aug and this way I can do any further tweaking to the set up if any troubles with camera pics.

I have had 5 cameras out for deer for 2 weeks now. Its about that time to check them now.
I have 16 quarters I hunt exclusively, so I need to move mine around a bit to pattern the deer.
I have been hunting these 16 quarters now for 4 years, and I am finally really starting to feel good about it. In those 4 years ive shot one deer, a 148" 5x5 last year. I have lots of young deer in that 120" - 150" range that will be crankers. Im really excited for this year.
Ive found that since I locked all the gates and put up No Tresspassing signs the deer sure have settled in and dont venture too far.
